Thanks inlaw model a! The hours seem to absolutely fly when you're working on stuff like this. Fun but time consuming for sure!

Glad to see you doing something besides all that nice lead work! Man I was getting pissed off everytime I looked at that can of Rage Gold in my garage! HAHA! Great job Eric, I am enjoying the build!

Started off this morning by milling a few round pieces to act as a support in between the two brackets. Then cut a sheet (slightly oversized to allow for shrinkage)and stamped lines into it together with Martijn.(Martin's son). Then got all the tools out a shaped it into a trunk floor. Its still sitting high in the front and rear due to the stampings. I'll be grinding and welding them next time to create a flat surface and eliminate it from waving.

    Thanks shawn!

Thanks Rob, it was good to move from leading to fabricating. I thought my arms were going to drop off.....

Thanks Finnrodder. I will have it all exactly in place next week and tack welded. Can't wait.

Thanks Rock. I've been extremely fortunate that I've been able to use Martin's shop now for the past few months. To be honest, I don't think I would have been able to fabricate all the pieces this quick and have them come out looking this way.

Today I made incisions on either side in the trunk floor so its able to lay flat. Hammered it into shape, welding it tomorrow. Also trimmed the floor even more, happy with the result now. Also bent a strip of 1.5 mm to act as a support above the c notch to ensure a rigid structure.

Nice job on the trunk! I get to do the same to mine now, I cut it out for my C notch and 4 link.

Thanks 46binder! Hope to have the sheet metal fabrication done by the end of this week. I like the work you're doing on your Dodge, looking great. Keep up the good work!

Got a lot done today! Fabricated a piece to go along the trunk side of the c notch. Measured the angle at which the lips needed to be bent and made a slight cross in it to prevent it from resonating. Then drilled holes in the lips and then test fitted both sheets of metal. Then tack welded it in place, took it out again and spot welded the bottom. Should be finished with the trunk area tomorrow. Yes!

Eric, are you going to use the stock trunk lid latch and handle or are you shaving the handle and installing a electric trunk popper? The reason I ask is I see there is the recessed area for the stock latch. Looking good. shawn

Shawn, I'll be shaving the handle and will use a cable operated latch. The recessed area for the trunk latch will be modified later when I start on the trunk lid and have the correct parts for the latch operation. Eric

Started off this morning re measuring: the cross bar above the c notch was a little too high for my liking. It also seemed to "pull" up the trunk floor slightly. So decided to grind the welds, take it off, modify and lowered it 11mm. Then test fitted it all again. Much better. Took out all the parts again, punched holes for the spot welds and treated the "never to be seen again" edges with an anti rust primer. Next: final test fit before tacking it all into place. Can't wait!

After a test fit and a few minor adjustments, I finally tacked it all into place. Even stood in it and it held my 90 kg body without any problems. Yes, it's done! Final TIG welding will be done by some friends. Going to start around the c notch tomorrow. You won't believe how happy I am, now that this is done! Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it immensely, but it just took a long time to fabricate and modify all the different parts. YES!!!

Hey Farmer, she's coming along good.......I found a picture of a 1948 plymouth with the split rear window
    like you were considering.
Basically the same body as yours. I apologize for the smallness of the pic but it's all I could find.:eek:It looks better than I thought it would.

Thanks Hivolt5.0 and AFL ! I feel like it's all coming together now. Going to fabricate some more sheet metal today and close the area above the c notch. Pics will follow tonight.

Thanks Frankie47! The split window on this car certainly looks good. My rear window is a little too square for a split window. As you know, I've toyed with the idea, but have decided against it. Thank you for taking your time to show me. Eric/farmer12

Even though my initial plan was to close the top part above the c notch, I decided to close either side if the vertical panel first. Fabricating and the thinking process took me most of the day. Progression is continueing at a good rate at the moment. Here are some pics.

Thanks for the compliment CHOPPED '46/Jurgen! With some patience, interest and a will to learn, I think everyone could do it. I only started shaping metal 2 months ago, there is still a lot for me to learn. But I'm enjoying what I'm doing and that should be the primary objective. Thanks, Eric

2 months? Holy crapola, I thought you'd been doing it for a lot longer than that. Those end pieces turned out nice. Methinks the other hotrodders in the Netherlands and beyond are going to come banging on your door when they see the stuff you make. Hope you keep your patterns!

Thanks OahuEli for the compliments! I've been lucky enough to have a great teacher showing me the ropes. It just takes practice, patience and learning how metal behaves in certain ways. With the right tools and equipment, you're able to fabricate more than you think was possible. Here's a few pics of things I've made.
