All I am getting a great deal on a pair of fenders for my pontiac, from a fellow HAMBer. what is the best ( and cheapest) way to ship . from near Austin Tx to chicago Thanks for your help Poncho
I shipped a big cadillac bumper via grayhound bus and it work well but i don't know if they'd take a fender. give them a call.
I shipped a set of $4,000 complete set of cherry 34 fenders off of my car to New York from Reno and they arrived faster then what fedex could get a package there. The ideal way is to take carpet padding and wrap the fenders. Once thats done, i shrunk wrapped the pad so it all held securely in place and gave it to the greyhound depot downtown. A+ service. Highly recommended!
Definately Greyhound. I have shipped all kinds of big odd sized stuff. Hoods, fenders, etc. As cheap as you will get. There are only two drawbacks... One, they don't really have tracking #s...They will say..."Uh..yea..I think your stuff is on the way...it MIGHT be in Memphis...or maybe Kentucky...it will be here about thursday..." Two, alot Greyhound depots are in ****ty neighborhoods. Last time I picked up a fender, there were lots of "interested bystanders.." Good luck, -Abone.
Put 'em on a 'Hound. Cheap, quick, and as close as the nearest bus terminal! It's great for big bulky stuff, and they're pretty carefull.
Another vote for greyhound. Just package it like it'll get dropped off a building. Greyhound can be a little rough at times, but overall is a great way to ship large items.
I have received quarter panels by Greyhound with out damage, only problem was they landed 150 miles away, but the bus company worked with me and eventually got them within 40 miles.
try marcy here on the hamb she goes back and forth from tx to milwaukee she brought me a bender from A>S>S tk
http://www.shipgreyhound.com/ Go Greyhound. Get a quote at the link above. It's ideal for this very type of thing, especially if you aren't in a big hurry. Depending on your route and the p***enger counts, some of the biggest packages, like fenders, may have to travel on standby, and will be put on board with room permitting. As an alternative, another carrier I hear a lot of positives about that is (or at least used to be) affordable for big items is Forward Air. It wasn't all that long ago that you could ship big items like quarter panels and fenders cheaply on commercial air lines. Haven't tried it in a few years but it might be worth a shot to investigate.
Ditto on Greyhound.I have used them for fenders twice, once from Cali and once from Tn and both times they arrived quickly, cheaply and with no damage.
leave the driving to greyhound . I've shipped fenders & other junk . Make sure on insurance amount though. good luck.
