I scored this axle yesterday and have never seen one. It had wishbones and the juice brakes make it 39 or later ford. Maybe it's a lincoln or mercury? There is a raised area on top, maybe for a bump stop?
I had a complete lincoln front end a year ago and the axle looked like a standard ford. I have also heard that the spindle/axle have to be used together as the inclination is different than ford.
The Lincoln spindles a friend had used bigger dia. king pins. You would have to bush them down to use on a Ford. I did not have a chance to check inclination.
I checked his sight and another, and neither of them had a pic of it. It looks to have been identified by jonny bondo.
It's a 46-47 Lincoln axle. King pin dia. and inclination on the Lincoln is different then Ford. Wish bones are longer then Ford but if I remember right the wish bone boss is wider. Brakes are good to use on Ford spindles. They bolt right on and are self energizing. www.droppedaxles.com
Howdy Gent's, I thought I had posted this question and perhaps it posted but it does not look like it. I have acquired a front axle that I am attempting to identify, It will be going under my first build and I need information to replace the king pins. The numbers cast into it on the drivers side "upright" are 3656872 GM312 It appears to be a drop axle of sorts and from the ONE online source that returns information I come up with a 1947-55 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck axle. If this is the case great, other wise is it possible to have the king pins bosses drilled to a larger size? I have added a couple photos, The king pin measures 5.31 inches long and .866 - .877 this as I have found is the common 47-55 Chevy king pin but I have seen the same size for 1941-57 axles also, are they the same king pins? Thank you all for any assistance.
It's a first series chevy AD axle. All the specs are on my web site www.droppedaxles.com there is also a article on my tech page about spindles.
