Help on gm style key switch

    Hi I am having trouble with geting the key to go to the lock position pulled steering column a part and can not get enough travel to line up the lock with drive pin. The key worked befor fine but will only go to off but will not go to lock to remove the key.It is a after market stering column do not know what brand it is. does any boby have any ideas? 47 willys:confused:

    if the ignition switch is mounted on the lower area of the column(if you have a gm style columb) then disconnect the rod from the switch. then try to move the key to the lock position. the switch it self may be jammed and not allowing the key to move far enough. i have a simular problem with my GM columb. my problem is part of a aluminum casting has broken.

    If it is an automatc column shift column put the shifter in Park. If it is a floor shift column rotate the collar all the way counter clockwise looking at it from the top. That's the collar that is just below the piece with the switch in it .

    if it is a tilt column you may have the gear rack out of time. been a long time since I had one apart but if i remember correctly there is a cast aluminum gear rack in there that has to be in time with the gear on the back of the ign housing.
