I thought I was the only one who does'nt get faux patina. :D It can be cool when its the real deal and some cars/bikes should preserve the history. But from a new built project? Wheres the craftmanship in that? I've owned my roadster for 25 years and there things I could do much better now. But its a part of me and my skills at that time. Someday I may redo it instead I drive it for what it is/was and build something new. But to build and present that way when I can do better now, I don't get it.

Somethings in life you won't "get"...but that's OK..(personally, I don't "get" unfinished hotrods)....so, in the meantime, just try to enjoy what people are building...and the craftsmanship in the machine work, bending, welding, fitting,etc...... Very few people are capable of what goes on at EXile...that's why he's successful.

If I jump up and down on a new leather seat cover and it gets all wrinkled, is that faux interior patina!?! Ha ha ha...

*****in' bike. Cool is cool and the Exile stuff is pretty wicked. I dig the patina... besides, they probably saved money by not hiring a paint and body guy!!!!

I look at it as just another type of finish.....The detail was great on the bike, and I actually think it's the best thing he has done. I think a serious fake patina guy would probably spend more time on the bike than a paint guy would. My brother was with me walking around...he walked right by it and later mentioned he thought it was just a mockup that sat outside too long in the rain...not a functioning bike.

And Skip...I've seen your work....I thought you were already using the "walked on" look in your shop....sorry....my mistake!!..(insert smiley face here!!)

Exile bikes are nicely built, its the trendy/faux patina I don't get. And hopefully never will. And the fact that he's successful speaks for his craftmanship. Just stating my opinion. Thanks for posting the pic.

Real Patina is great, if you're young enough...I bought a rust free deuce three window three years ago and put it in the backyard....I think 47 more years of rain will just about do it, and then I can start building it....Hope I'm not dead by then.

I just fell of my ****ing chair laughing......
I have a new business idea!!!! I am going to buy a whole lot of car bodies/parts/pieces and let it sit in a field and water it every few days until i get the right level of patina. The longer it takes to cultivate, the more expensive it is. I'm gonna sell the to Jesse James and Boyd and any other high dollar "Vintage" hot rod builders. I am going to be rich.
Well, either that or if I miss the craze that is coming I will be an idiot with a field full of metal.....

Who would have ever thought that one day someone would say as they're looking at a car they were thinking about buying, "No thanks. I'll p***. It dosent have enough rust for me"

Seriously...for me it's always been about what you can do with your own two hands. I don't see any skill in using existing sheet metal "as is"....but, that's just me. To each his own as they say. Proper design and execution is what I look for, no matter what is being built. I would take that bike over a poorly constructed "real" patina bike....once again...just me.

I like the bike but don't understand the fake patina either. I can see No chrome and spray bomb paint for a no fuss bike that'll really be riden, but to go through all that work to make new parts look like **** is stupid. I do kinda understand the statement though. It's kind of a in-your-face "**** you" to all the over done chrome and billet show only bikes with the technicolor puke paint. I like the at***ude.

I can't find fault with the workmanship, but if it was mine it would have a springer front end, and a tank that covered the open area above the front cylinder. I've seen faux patina on some pre 1910 automobiles that really looked nice, it is an art form.

  23. Hmmmm...Its certainly different...but what can you expect from a Brit? Oh, hang on...I'm one too :D That MAY explain the Valiant!!

personally i think exile bikes are too clean...they tend to look like they are made from plastic....that being said, ive never seen one in person and im sure the craftmanship is first cl***...and ive seen a few that i really like....

i like knowing it is a machine....leave some stuff exposed!

ANYTHING with an EVO motor is gay.....some just have excessive gayness.

But, creativity is OK with me.....finishing a concept is good.

  28. Maybe I'm the only person who noticed this, but the bike looks as though it's tarnished br***, not rust/patina/whatever.

I like Russell's approach to building bikes and he definitely has carved out a niche'. But man, I don't understand the avenues he takes sometimes. The Rockabilly Discovery build-off bike? This thing? His style is too innovative to dumb it down w/ the latest overdone trend.

Russell is the guy that should build a modern version of a race ready Vincent Black Shadow, that would really be nice to see.
