hey guys while going through an old cabnit I had parts in I came ascross a set of heads part # c7rz-6050-b that look to be in great shape and just have the word canada stamped on them and the part #. Im not up to date on my vintage engine parts so i was wondering if I found something that might be worth something. mabey I can sell these off and get something I need for my 52 pontiac project. anyone have any idea of the value of these or some info on what these are? thanks, rob
They look like weiand cheater heads they made them to look like the (made in canada)heads but weiand made them .Look on the bottom side for the weiand raised letters sound be around the water neck.Darrell
Don't know actual value but if I was a flatty guy Canadian heads would be the ones I would like to have. they are supposed to be superior to the US ones.
just ran out 2 the shop 2 look and yes they do have a weiland stamp on the underside. Does that make them junk and not worth anything?
No, it means they're cheater heads. High comp heads made to look stock so you could sneek past tech. Their a performance head
I just p***ed on a set of cheaters for 400 if that helps. They were in great shape. I just didn't need them right now.
well I gurss thats a good parts cabnit find!! I think they were my grandfathers heads for one of his circle track cars so that makes sence on why we would have cheater heads. I might just have to put them in the cl***ified section, a bit of change from those sure would buy alot for my old poncho!! thanks folks. rob
hey guys how rare are these heads, I searched all day and I cant find any info on them. anybody got any more info they want to add?
Go to the search function....type in weiand Cheater heads, and read any of the 40 posts that come up.there's even a set that sold for $650.............happy reading
Thanks folks all that info was great!!! I have just a few more ?'s for ya. #1 is this a new head, it sure looks new to me, the other head has been used for sure. #2 they both are the same part # so when I list them on ebay should I sell them as a pair or each, Which would bring better money, Should i sell them seperately because of the difference in condition? thanks guys, im needing to sell these so I can get a new frame under the old poncho and get the wife off my back so the more $ i can get the better. rob
sell them together. Kinda a shame to break up a set. If you want the most out of them, put them on Ebay. I've been looking for a nice set for awhile. but money and availability have never lined up for me.
i would love to sell them here but im unsure of what to ask 4 them so I thought the most fair way was an auction.
Don't list it as "new".......it's not. mint condition or unused is fine. it's never been run I can ***ure you of that.....let's play a little game, who else notices the key detail that makes me sure it's never been used?...........anybody?
No concentric rings in the combustion chamber and no scale in the water outlet? There does seem to be rings where the gasket may have been around the water p***ages though.
WINNER!!!!!!!!............I've seen alot of weird unfinished early speed parts, but I'd venture to guess that's why this one hasn't been run.
Maybe because three were stripped out and made to be 18mm insted of 14mm..A friend has those same heads on the engine in his roadster, polished..Those heads have to be cut for the piston dome clearence for the bore of the engine they are to be used on....
Here is a bit of info on your heads off of my blog, you have a very nice pair of heads: 'Cheater heads', "Weiand" heads were manufactured without the fins, however; these were obviously aftermarket heads as the aluminium heads pictured are a gennie Ford item.... There has been much discussion regarding these original aluminum heads & Cheater Heads, with a few different opinions, however; some very knowledgable dirt, circle track racers and antique guru's from my area share the same opinion..... "MADE IN CANADA" is embossed on the heads as you can see above picture. All Canadian aluminum heads had markings as numerous heads are floating around without markings, which are more often than not, finned heads which had the fins milled off as dicussed below. Remember, old time circle track racers in Ontario, Canada and upstate N.Y. would machine the fins off of aftermarket heads as the rules for dirt, circle track racing, once stated: "No finned heads". Hence, the racers taking this rule to the letter of the word, would mill the fins off of the heads. The rules then stated; "No aftermarket heads", however; Canadian heads would still be permitted under this rule. The third rule change, finally read; "No aluminum or after market heads" as the majority of racers and rule makers were unaware of factory aluminum heads. This is quoted from an old time circle track racer.
They both look used to me. One's just a little cleaner than the other. I think selling them as a pair is the fair thing to do.
thanks very much candy-man for the info!! and ironfly28 for the schooling. how rare are these heads? Anyone have production #'s for them?
Your heads are definately used or they would not have those gasket markings around the water jackets. That being said they do not have a lot of hours on them. The next question is have they ever been surfaced down to gain even more compression. A lot of old timers used to plane the hell out of the heads or use pop up pistons to gain more compression, in this way they could run alki or nitro or a mix of both. As a result of this excess compression it was not unusual to blow spark plugs out of the aluminum heads especially with the alternative race fuels. Your heads however do not appear to have been planed or if they were at one time it was minimal. I own a set of those same heads and and the old guy I bought them from kept them really clean and polished but he did say thay he had shaved an extra 30 thou off the surface. When I was building one of my flatties with domed pistons I thought it would be great to use these heads but the clearance was so minimal that it was not possible. The only way I can run my heads is to open up the combustion area if there is enough meat left or run them with flat top pistons. I think I would choose the latter So you do infact have a limited set of heads there. They are used and those plug holes were either stripped out from over tightening or blown out from excess compression. Either way they have been tapped to 18mm from 14 mm, mine are all 14mm thats how I know. This will bring the value down a bit but nothing signifigant. I would not plan on getting 650.00 for them with three of the plug holes tapped out to the larger heads but one can be hopeful. I would list them as being in excellent but used condition and just tell them that three plug holes were modified at some time in the past to 18mm. Myself I would either find a set of the old time replacement thread in plugs that screw into an 18mm hole and takes the plug hole back to 14mm (these are scarce and hard to find) or tap both heads out to 18mm and run the earlier style plugs, they run just the same as the 14mm and in my opinion really gives an early flatty that old school look. Hope this helps and just my 2 cents.
