The discussions about the Deuce of Spades movie and the past talk about the now stalled or abandoned Jon Favreau project Johnny Zero got me thinking about what kind of car movie I'd like to see, and I'm wondering what ideas others on here might have. I tried to do a search to see if there are any similar posts but the H.A.M.B. seems to be stuck in first gear today.

My idea would be to do an Aviatoresque, Heart Like a Wheel type life story on "Big Daddy" aka Don Garlits and the evolution of drag racing. He's got much of his own hardware tucked away in his museum and it would be a good excuse to get a bunch of those recently restored Cacklefest Nitro cars to at least do a burnout on the big screen in Dolby Surround Sound or is it THX these days?

My bloods pumpin' just thinking about it. So what ideas do you got?

There was talk years ago about a bio pic about "Big Daddy".
Although most if not all of us would love to see that come to fruition, it has very limited appeal to the general public, i.e. won't make money at the box office!
The likelyhood of the Hollywood types getting it right is pretty slim, there would have to be sex, explosions, and a few million dollars of computer effects.
    NERTZ to the idea!!!!

need a counter culture (ie Easy Rider) car & car hero(s) that messes with all the import people & takes their money - he's umemployed suddenly & going across country to a new job but has to fund it with his car & skills - make the car the star - nasty old skool bad a$$ rod, blower, big block, nitrous, flames, smoke, etc. - law's after him because of the trail behind him - loud, nasty rock n roll soundtrack - lots of females - lots of situation comedy

Yes. There was a documentary about his murder on TV here last week.

Completely OT, but I'd like to see a movie with a good chase involving an '80s Group B rally car in an urban environment. I don't believe it's been done.

  11. I think.. something around the lines of a cross country road trip.. something like vanishing point meets wild hogs, with a touch of easy rider I would film the whole thing between Tucson and flagstaff, on the 800 or so miles of dirt roads, twisty mountain roads, and camping out in the back country.. maybe a girl and a guy rob a bank, squeak away just barely and high tail it to the back country.. always running, looking over their shoulders .. and then in the end.. the chase with the cops hot on their tail of a 50 coronet convertible hot rod (hey its my movie) they try to run.. the cops pull the hit ya on the quarter panel spin ya around maneuver and the car spins.. skids.. and careens off a cliff on 89a running over either Mingus mountain, or 89a outside of Yarnell... there hows that?

X3. There would be a lot of material there, he did it all. I could just see the film opening with Challenger 1 flying past in a big blue blur as a chunk of salt rolls by the camera. Another one that would appeal to the Hollywood types as well as the hard core car guys would be Steve McQueen.

if it has lots of info about the cars and how they are built then i can't see it making money, if its alot of pointless drama, then it will be a hit, sad but true.

I've been thinking for years about b movie type script about a car that is possessed sort of like Christine but it gets wrecked and parted out, all of the parts carrying with them the evil spirit into the new cars that they are installed onto.

  20. I've always thought a remake of The Cars that Ate Paris would be good. A lot more gore... some cars that are actually scary... but without losing the dark socio-political satire that was the whole point of the film!

    Sorry, I'm a nerd.

The problem with movies is that it takes 2 to 3 years to make 'em and only 2 hours to watch them... Since I made DEUCE OF SPADES, everybody has been emailing me trying to pitch me hot rod film ideas... It goes anything from bio on some cool racer from back then all the way up to zombie hot rod films LOL... I keep telling them I got my next movie already lined up but people won't listen ...

The thing is, it costs so much money and is so freaking hard making a feature film that those who write scripts and synopsis hit a brick wall when it come to actually finding financial backing to turn the ideas into reality.

And that's why there's been such a void in the genre. :(

    Movie ideas-
The early mines field gilmore races...
The Ford Motor Co and the issues at the Ford plant with Labor
How Ford got through the depression...

There has to be some human interest stories somewhere embedded within these events...

It is hard to make a car movie today unless it has high tech do das in the car. A good story line with realistic cars and no over the top electron stunts. DEUCE OF SPADES has a cool story line and I hope it starts a trend and we get many more cool car movies.

HiboyGirl and hints on what your next story line is going to be about???? Just a little hint!!please

I don't really agree that a car guy movie has to be updated or cheesy to be a hit. One good example: The Worlds Fastest Indian.

    Good ideas!
OK,a couple of things. About 'Christine. If you read the book,at the end of ,she gets scrapped, then a year or so later they hear about people they knew getting run over and other bad things.. Maybe he was going to make a sequel? Who knows...
Don Gartlits would be a good movie. But he may have to be a vampire to bring in the younger crowd.

I want to see "SWAP MEET". 2 car clubs compete against each other at the local Swap Meet, (think Hershey, Portland, Pomona...) to build a drivable / safe Hot Rod from just parts they scrounge from the Swap Meet. They each get $5,000.oo to start, and have to rely on their skills as wheeler dealers, as well as builders. They can get extra money along the way with little side competitions. The game starts at the beginning of the Meet, and the deadline is Sunday at the closing. Some BIG name tool company donates the tools to be used in 2 matching shops on the edge of the Swap Meet. Winners get to KEEP BOTH Hot Rods, and the tools. the looser's get the Milton Bradley Home Board Game.

Sounds more suited for TV and I'm kind of tired of "build offs". Nothin' cool about a rush job.

Yeah, I know, but I think about it every time I'm at Swap meets.
But a movie??? How about remaking "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad world"?
