Im pretty new to the scene, and older hotrods. Have owned several nbs stangs, and kinda over that for a bit. That said, I recently acquired a 1950 Ford F1 from a buddy on the HAMB. Truck has original Flatty V8. I'm looking for some exhaust advice, just something that sounds good cut outs ect. Not looking for power obviously just a clean healthy sounding exhaust. Pics/sound clips would be great, or just some good ol fashioned advice. Thanks!! btw: The truck is a 50, in the pic you might notice the front end...has a 52 front end. Just a piece of info for those who feel the need to debate the year. Which this thread is not intended.
Don't go too big in dia. You lose that cl***ic flathead tone. I have 1.75" straight pipes all the way back on my AV8 and it sounds great.
Nice, yeah i keep debating on running pipes all the way back or just putting a set of cutouts. Thanks for the advice!
If you go to the Ford Truck Entusiast Site they have a section for 48-60 trucks .The guys there are very helpful.
I've run a set of Red's Headers on my 48 F1 for the past 10 years and am very happy with them. They have 1 3/4" tubes as mentioned above. These headers are made to fit around the steering gearbox. Cast iron Fentons will need some work with a grinder to fit.
Forgive my ignorance to this topic, but with this set-up, are you running mufflers, or just strait pipes to the rear?
i ran fentons and smithy's on my 52 f1 and it sounded great, especially after the smithys got broke in good. i didn't have any real problems fitting the fentons, it was a bit tight and we did just a little grinding on drivers side.
I have Speedways headers on the F1 in my avatar with 1 5/8 pipes all the way back with no mufflers and its sounds great. You do have to m***age the rear tube to clear the steering box with those headers.......
