    Howdee!

I'll be picking up my Grandad's old 50-ish Chevy truck. Not sure of the exact year, yet, but I will soon! I've been reading about s-10 chassis swaps and all sorts of crazy goings-on. We'll see..... Think I'm probably gonna be trailering it home tomorrow. Here's a pic sitting next to my '06 Silverado.

Thanks for the welcome. And nice website, Larry! Some very COOOL work there!

I have no friggin clue where this truck may go. It's my Grandad's, who was killed in a farming accident when my dad was around 11.

This truck has been sitting outside for many years at one of my relative's house. They grew tired of it, and were going to haul it off for scrap, until my cousin said, "Heck no!"

So it sat at my cousin's house (outside) for several years, where it still sits tonight. I've kinda known about the truck, but my interest wasn't really sparked until very recently, and I started asking about "that old truck over there." Well.... I just have to have it, ya know?

Planning to trailer it home tomorrow. I will put it IN MY GARAGE. I will clean the critter crap out of it, and then I don't know.

    ????

The motor gave up in about 1975, and it got parked. So it will need a new power plant. I happen to have a totally rebuilt power plant sitting in my garage. I won't say what it is, but the colors don't match, and I might get a tongue-lashing if I fess up. hint hint. But, the engine is there, it's paid for, and I've already taken enough of a loss on its intended destination.

I don't know if this will be a "ratrod," or an attempt at a cosmetic restoration. I just really haven't found that inspiration yet. We need to get to know each other, first. haha!

Jeff, welcome to the site, but be warned don't use the "R" word.

Haha. Thanks for the warning. It was uhhhhhh..... a hypothetical. You know... a random, wild example, used for the sole purpose of illustrating the fact that I really don't have a frickin clue as to what I may do to this truck. I might paint it pink and tile the floor- I don't know!! :)

.... and to which "R" word were you referring? ;-)

oooohhhh I have so much to learn.

Okay then..... been doing some research on here about the dreaded "R" word.

First of all- I want no part of that debate. That ship has obviously sailed long ago. I now understand the perspective of the members here. That's fine. The "R" word has its place in other places. Cool.

In all honesty, though, I don't know that my truck has much potential in being a nicely finished hotrod or show truck, or whatever the favored terms may be. It's pretty rough. And will likely always appear rough? I mean, look at it!.... the entire hood is caved-in. Most of the glass is cracked. There is extensive body rust. The engine is junk. I do not know what the structure is like. AND IT'S GOT A FLAT TIRE!!!!!

    That being said-
I do know that I love it already. It was in the family from its childhood, and I'm going to bring it back to some better state than it is in right now. I just don't know how far it will go.

Welcome to the HAMB. My brother and I went to college in Seward, about 25-30 miles from you. We bought a '53 Chevy pickup from an elderly man in Seward (in '78) for $150 bucks ($75 each) and drove it til it threw a rod when my brother was driving it 70 mph!

There were lots of old trucks to be found in Nebraska back then, everywhere it seemed.

I'd get it running good, push the dent in the hood back out and have fun with it til you decide which way you want to go. People pay money to fake the patina you have on your truck.

BTW, your truck is a '47-50 model. Vent windows were introduced in '51 and pushbutton door handles in '52.
