alright guys, im going to start the searching on redoing a bench seat in my pickup. Its definatly worn out and on longer drives is literly a pain in the ass. Now im sure its going to be straight foward, but heres the one catch. What material should I use to be able to hold up to a dog riding around with me? It may seem dumb, but my dog likes to ride around with me, and if I re do the seat I dont want it to get torn up quick. Its not a show truck or anything, just a driver that eventually will be clean but nothing crazy.

Im guessing id want to go with some type of vinyl, but besides that I dont have a clue. I really dont want to take it to a shop, because theres only one locally and there expensive. thanks guys

If it were me I'd use denim. It'll hold up a lot better than vinyl and won't get super hot in the summer. Not what you would traditionally use for seats but its good rugged material. I think AMC had denim seats back in the day as an option.

Depends on the weight of the dog and how often you trim its nails. I would go for thick denim or leather like that of a saddle or cowboy boot. Something that has a tough hide. Another choice would be the material used for army duffle bags. Some rat rod magazine used the material to cover its seats in a project car.

thats a good idea about the C-bags, im sure I could find some since im in the Marine Corps.

The dog is a boxer, and I trim her nails. I just have to figure out what color options Ill have. The dash will be white and black, and I havent figured out the headliner or doors yet. I think they actually make C-bags in black too.

I would cover it with what you want and just use a throw over when you take her.. I bet she likes going for a ride..........

I use a rubber backed throw rug from Wal-Mart and change it when it gets worn. It stays in place and I roll it up and stick it under the seat when I don't need it. Fozzie seems to like it.

Think about replacing the seat with a late model GM pickup seat. The cloth covered seat is very comfy, the dog liked it, I liked it, and it has three point belts on the seat. It would be easy to narrow one to fit an older PU.

  9. I don't have an answer to your question but anyone who has man's best friend riding alongside them is alright by me! Like Scrap Metal 48 mentioned, I'd be tempted to just throw an old mexican blanket (or something) over the seat where the dog sits and call it good.

Right now I'm using a OD green wool blanket that works alright, I could always redo the seat and throw that blanket down when Holley rides with me. And if anyones wondering, yes Holley is named after the carbs.

Yup, "levis" option on Javelins, AMX's and Hornets. Not sure probably Gremilns too. Actually fairly rare I think, there used to be a levis AMX in my hometown.

  12. Shocker, since you are in the Corps, see if you can find an old GP or CP tent. They were the heavy canvas material of of the old sea bags. Perhaps even an old canvas tarp and the canvas can be dye'd any color you want.

I had an old sea bag once, but she smelt like fish.

Yep my dog loves the seat in my driver that is that style. Saddle blanket style seat covers don't look too ugly and work well with dogs and such too.
Or order some unbrushed Pendleton blanket material by the yard from my friend here in town http://www.kraffs.com/ and use it for your own personalized blanket seat covers.
