my plan is to chop the top 5"inches in the front and 61/2" inches in the back 3inch section and channeling over the frame...i have the drive train figured out but one thing i'm not sure about. Skirts or no skirts?
i just not sure if someone has time to photoshop this both way would be great..i like the look both ways...thanks carcrazyjohn
measure the height of the car from rocker to roof then start subtracting what you are going to remove, height of the frame, the 3" section, the 6" chop, any subrails or floor supports. (I'll bet your loosing a foot or a little more in overall height.) Now sit down comfortably on the floor and measure from the floor to the top of your head. If the first number is less than the second number your going to have ergonomic issues that may render the car a 15 minutes or less cruiser. Just sayin.
thanks tinman i,ve chopped a few but never sectioned one. I honestly think the car would look good just channeled, but i been wanting to do something radical for a long time. any secrets or tips on sectioning?
not everything has to be chopped. That car for example has a great profile as is In my opinion. But hey good luck, I hope it turns out swell.
The proportions will be way off if you chop that car. If you can't photoshop yourself, print out a few side views of the car and cut and tape the photos together to see if you like the look. Paper is easier to work with than metal and easier to fix if you don't like the look. It is your car, so do what you want but being radical just for the sake of being radical is not always good.
i think if i go a little less on the chop, the proportions should work out ok..mabey more like 3 in the front and 41/2 in the back woul work better
There is a red one that's overly chopped- makes that already huge front and rear really look out of proportion.
I was overcome with the custom spirit that moved me to sketch this. 4"ish chop with back window laid down extending the top length about a foot and shortening the trunk lid the same. No section, maybe channeling to lower it if necessary. Flush taildragger skirts with back ends recontoured around bumper shape.
If yer gonna do all that work man, take the time to knock about a foot out of the front fender behind the tire.
That chop looks magnificent. However I shortened the front and added skirts with a really quick photochop Geoff aka whodaky PS I made this post before seeing The Dude's post. I actually shortened the front, ahead of the front wheel!
just my two cents, but maybe a more slanted chop would fit better... and yes, she's screaming for skirts!
There was another post here not too long ago where the guy was chopping a Mopar 3 window, he used a '40 Ford coupe rear window area, the key was the chop was fairly mild but he made the roof longer by positioning the bottom of his new rear window back toward the trunklid further, and leaning it in more. It looked fantastic, really nailed the proportions. I could see a 2" section and a 3" chop but slanted down at the rear with the window extended out like that other guy did, it would be a ton of work but it'd be a really slick looking car when done. I think the front end shortening wouldn't be necessary if the roof were longer toward the rear. The m***iveness of the car is part of what makes the big Chrysler cool, now you just have to get the proportions right.
Also, see if you can get another picture, dead on from the side but without the garage shadow on it. That's making a photoshop a lot tougher. Even a dead-on side shot of another identical body style Chrysler would work. The right photoshop picture here could make all the difference on the whole build, it's important.
