Great Britains iconic Allard-Chrysler, the first dragster in England and Europe is one step closer to getting its new powerplant, after the original was removed from the ch***is when it was destroyed in 1964. After six months of ***embly at Booth-Arons Racing Engines (Berkley, Mich.), the completed blown 354 Chrysler Hemi was crated and delivered to the Detroit Metro Airport by SBS Worldwide, a freight forwarding service headquartered in Dartford, Kent, England. The engine arrived at Heathrow Airport near London and was cleared through customs and released to the Allard Chrysler Action Group (ACAG). According to ACAG spokesman, Brian Taylor, the engine was delivered to Andy Robinson Race Cars (ARRC) south of Reading (west of London) to be fitted for the clutch and to do final installation of the induction system which was not installed for the flight to London. We are pleased that Andys group is handling the final fit-ups of the clutch, the injectors and the blower plumbing, said Taylor. ARRC campaigns a very compe***ive blown Pro Mod Studebaker on the European drag racing tour, and we are confident his team will put the final tune-up on the engine, so Ally can be cackled. We are aiming to introduce Ally with her new heart at the Autosport International Show, January 13 to 16 in 2011 at the National Exposition Centre in Birmingham. Carl Olson of the SFI Foundation and a board member of the Quarter Mile Foundation, and a former top fuel drag racer, NHRA Vice President and FIA Drag Racing advisor, calls the Allard-Chrysler, once the engine is completed and installed, as one of the oldest original working dragsters in the world. Really potvin hemi drive allard??? way to kill all my dreams!!! So whats the deal chain coupler? And has it been streetableized??
I kinda agree with ****gy, how are you going to shoe horn that potvin Chrysler in an Allard without extending the front end. Very cool non the less, I would like to see how this progresses.
This engine is destined for the Allard dragster, #57 in video, not one of his road cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoAsAzOYYno&playnext=1&list=PL60D4486FA5A13234&index=2
I guess i need to read, but yea i remember reading that article in R+C or something like that about moon shipping their dragster to england, and the only real rail being sidney allard. I remembered thinking then that "is that the same allard as in THE Allard?? So whats the history??
For those of you that want to follow the progress, and all that has been done so far, click on the link and check it out.................... http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/acag/acag.html
Broke the motor out of the crate this morning..................... Frame being fabricated for transporting to shows, prior to fittting to the ch***is.............
I believe that dragster was the first one in England. Sidney Allard was a real hot rodder. I can't think of a bigger gearhead. He died over 40 years ago but his legacy lives on.
It got me curious about the car and I had a look on timetraveldvd and came up with some good shots of the car back in the day... http://www.timetraveldvds.co.uk/gallery/1963/index.html there is even a few pictures of a 36 coupe that I bought a few years ago...small world eh?
The project moved forward a bit more today with the instalation of the engine..................................
