yes it does. but depending what years, some were used on an open driveshaft and others on torque tubes rear ends and the tail shafts on the ******s are different but they bolt up to the motors.

You can replace a 216 with a 235 and reuse the bellhousing, etc. from the 216....

49-52 trans mount is not the same as a 53-54 trans mount. the trans its self is the same but the mount from the trans case to cross member about 4 inches set back.

thanx for the reply guys!! the trans is the original one(216) from the 1950 chevy i have together with the original rear axle and the engine is a 235 '53/'55
still have to pick the engine up at some guys place,so i could not try to fit it in yet,
are the motor mounts the same on a 53/55?
on the previous ones they are on the front of the engine, but i think on the 53/55 years they are in the middle of the engine ,right?but besides that it should fit, right?
    cheers pete

    hey,
its a 49-52 trans in a '50(stock one) car,so that should not be any problem, just was wondering if the engine would fit flawless on the stock mounts and the 216,but yesterday the guy told me its a '53-'55 235 so i guess its maybe just the motormounts that wil be different?!
    cheers pete

you can drill the front plate for the motor mount or change the front plate from the 216. I used to drill the front plate.

You will need to drill two holes in the front motor plate to match.

Changing the motor plate requires taking half the engine apart and buying a gasket set...

'37-54 car and '37-47 truck bellhousings use the same bolt pattern as that trans, and '37-62 L6 bellhousings all work on any 216/235/261 engine.

What flywheel and starter to use is dependent on what year the engine is and if you are running 6 or 12 volts...

Got the 235 a week ago and everything seems to fit perfect on the stock mounts(engine to car),just have to put the 216 bellhouse and gearbox on now and fit it in. thanks for the info guys!!
