Here's some pics that I didn't get to add to the last thread about rusty relics and weeds.

I can not understand why people with cars parked out in the field get so protective! What are they waiting on?Most of the owners are old guys that will never live long enough to rebuild any of their stash!!By the time the old fart dies most of their stuff will be beyond repair. JMO,ROY.

The reason a lot of rural guys don't take kindly to strangers is because they have been ripped off too much in the past! When approaching someone about vintage tin, be as kind or more kind than you have ever been before. Realize also that the owner might want to keep his stash secret. You showing up means that you might tell several people (or post it on the internet!) and let the thieving begin! Just my take from having rural friends. Regards, Rusty

A local stash of 30-40 cars around here that I knew about and tried my best to buy them all just recently got s****ped by the decendants of the owner, hopefully that doesn't happen to this stash.....I'm still pissed about all of those cars being cut up by some dirtbag s****per and the family not giving a **** about me trying to buy them for years.

  8. If it was not for guys like him and US that hold are rust to are selfs, It would probably be gone! We sure don't know what your gonna do with it, Might sell it to you and then turn aroud and make a R-A-T R O-D out of it! I would like to see my stuff rust into the ground then get sent to the S****! No sence in are good usa Steel getting made into guns and bombs that are gonna kill are guys!

  9. I go to Auctions all the time and it kills me to see that happen! Now if I was a old man noy able to get aroud or anything, I would find some young kid that likes the stuff and GIVE him a car, As Long as I know my stuff was going to a good home I would let the person have it

  10. If this stuff is anything like what WAS in the Botkinburg AR area off Hwy 65 ............................RIP more old steel.

  11. Funny ya said Botkinburg A.R I can see Botkinburg out my back door and im at lest 30 35 miles away! Im on top of a Mountain, Turn there at Botkinburg on 110 and go out about 5 miles and theres another place! but its way way off the road, I do know the guy that has the place!

  12. The only way to beat the s****per, is to BE the s****per.

Family is funny like that, the one yard we were into the friend of the guy who was taking care of him seemed to be incensed that anyone might make a single penny off the stuff, outside apparently of the s**** guy. My buddy tried to buy everything, they went to a s**** guy and took a slightly higher bid and never gave my buddy the chance to up his offer.

So a lot of really good cars got wadded up, at $300 a pop I could only buy so many of them.

  13. 300$!! If I took my 1959 Ford Custom 300 in to the yard with engine trans, All there I would not even get 150!

I'm one of those old farts with half a dozen old vehicles that are rusting away but won't sell nothing.
I have held onto them for decades, even spent thousands more to move them all with me to another state, and have been collecting NOS and rare parts for each of them for years, the Barn, garage, and closets are stuffed full of parts made out of unobtainium.
So some stranger shows up on my doorstep and is disappointed that I'm not willing to sell that rusty old '48 for a couple of hundred bucks.
What does he know of when and how it came into my possession? Should I just forget how my now long departed brother gave me the lead and helped me with rescuing it? and all of those great hours that we spent together going to the swap meets, planning, and bench racing?
Or that '62 sitting out there, obtained at a time when I was near to flat broke, with kids in college and without a dime to spare, my best buddy put up the cash and bought it for me?
Every one of my old cars has a story, and strong personal reasons for why I still own it, whether I am physically or financially able to restore it or not.
I still have hope to restore them all, although I know how unlikely that is.
But I'll be dammed if while I'm still living, if I'm going to now let 'em p*** into hands that would just part 'em out for a quick buck, or chop 'em up for rat rods.

If I took a 1959 ford custom 300 into the s**** yard here I would get $403 right now. I just figured it out. If I took it just to local junkyard, yes then I be only getting Between $50.00 to $100.00 for it then.

I try buying things up in the area but the money has been tight the last few years so I've had to leave them go lately. When i took an off topic truck in last week, someone just brought in a nice looking buildable Divco. Made me sad, but nothing i could have done about it. Once in this yard, it doesn't see the public anymore until it comes out as a new toaster.

Yep, sentimental value can outweigh any price a s****per or builder can offer you. I've got a 66 satellite convertable that I brought many years ago at an auction that is rough. My friends family had the auction. I used to ride in that car to school with my friend. At the time of the auction, he only had a few months to live. I brought the car for the past. It sits in the back corner inside my shop. Will i get it back together? who knows but it won't leave my inside stable until i'm either dead too or do get it back together and it drives out.

People don't like lowballers either. It's apparently worth something if you are asking about it. Make an offer that says "I really want to take this future hot rod home".

Very well said and good for you! I have a good friend with a bunch of cars that he has collected/saved over many years. He taught me to understand exactly what you have said above. All his cars have a purpose and place in his life. Whether they get finished doesnt matter that much to him. He just enjoys having them and tinkering with them. Good on him for having the foresight to save them when many didnt.

Yep, what others often do not appreciate, there are those days when I just go out sit in one of these old heaps of mine, sometimes for an hour or more, and recall and reconnect what I used to be with what I am. :D

    Priceless

People are going to do what they want with their property. While none of us really agree that these things should be left to rot away, we can't make some one sell them. Period. Case in point, my brother just sent me a few pictures of a private collection he came upon while hunting. He made contact with the owner, who inherited the collection from his Dad. The fellow was polite enough but stated none of the cars are for sale or ever will be. He stated that one day he plans to dig a big hole and bury them all. His dad was buried in one of the cars, so this may very well happen. He allowed my brother to shoot a few pictures as they talked and walked around his property but wasn't interested in any offers. My brother states there were several fully restored cars sitting under a pole barn going to waste as well as dozens of good parts cars. I'm including few shots he sent me. These are mostly Fords and Mercurys. Try not to cry.
