Hey whats up everybody. Ive been struggling to get the brake drums off of my 1938 ford pickup for the last couple of weeks, and I finally was able to get them off today. I thought I would share with everybody how I went about this. I have tried everything that I have read so far and nothing has worked until I decided to make my own drum puller. I looked at other pullers online, and kinda came up with my own idea. So what it did is I used some square reciever tubing about 2"x2" id...might be a little bigger, but basically whatever will fit over the hub. And i cut it out so that it could fit over the hub. I welded two plates top and bottom. On the bottom I cut a 1-5/8" hole, and cut it straight out so it would slide over the hub and on top I used a 1/2" bolt and drilled a hole for it to go through and welded a nut on top of that. Pretty simple, and it work first try. I applied very minimal heat to the hub before pulling it, as to not warp the rotors. Be careful and do not use too much heat!!!...Refer to the pictures to get an idea of whats going on, and good luck. Thanks, Jared
The hub nut that Mac's sells for a whopping $3 has worked for me every single time. Good lookin puller you made though!
Sorry about that guys...I just noticed from previous threads that I have read that a lot of people have had troubles with this, so I thought I'd just post up what worked for me....and maybe give a little advice. Keep on truckin!
Probably a crazy question since I just looked this up on their site. How does it work to pull the hub? I've been thinking of going the route of the OP as well.
