I have been hauling ass to get my frame finished its on my big 3 combo build but the question is how much to plate what parts get what color .Today I decided to get the frame powder coated the darkest blue that the coater has and do my axle front and rear black and plate my wish bones and headlite brackets .I am gonna wait and match the paint to the powdercoat . I just wanted to know how you guys figure it out !! this is confusing the shit out of me. I want to do it late 50s help !!
powder coated? late 50s build? Paint everything you have the patience to paint, and chrome however much you can afford to chrome.
Rattle can the parts the colors you think you want them. You will know real soon if its what your goin for. Cheap and easy
I prefer paint over powdercoat for one simple reason. "tuch up" you can blend paint. My drag boat had a lot of powdercoat and over the last couple of years I have eliminated most of it. Most of the parts are polished now, the same amount of wiping either way. Thats just my opinion.
if you need to match the paint to the powder coat, you should be able to take the frame to a paint supplier who has a machine that reads the color off the frame and gives the formula to mix the right color paint.
Yep powder coat and 50's dont jive I thought It might be easier to take care of because I plan on driving the wheels off of it .And the last frame I shot with single stage was hell a few runs and a had little trash plus frames just dont buff well
I was sayin to use it for reference purposes. You can get an idea of what it will look like together with the diferent parts different colors. Once you know which parts go what color you can blast and paint/powdercoat for the desired result. I paint cars for a living and dont think many people can visually tell the difference between paint and powdercoat. My $.02
Take the powder coater a 8x8 steel blank have him powder coat it the color of the frame use it for a sample to match.
