Anybody know if the iphone 4 camera is really any better than the 3? Because up to the 3 the camera is a piece of ****. I might upgrade to the 4 if so. But, if not, I'll definitely wait until Steve Jobs finally stops cheaping out on that. I still remember how pissed I was when I bought the first version and it couldn't even do movies. I got flamed on the Apple boards asking about it and for daring to suggest I thought it should. They at least fixed that with 3, but the quality of the camera still ****s. I'm not about to upgrade until I know for sure they finally have a decent camera in it.
Yes it is, extremly better. it even has a flash. the videocamera is fully useable... But you can upgrade the 3g software to the 4. That helps much to become the 3g camera much better...
The camera on the 4 is a jump in the right direction...but compared to other Smart phones, it still comes up short. The new HDR feature is great for outdoor and detail shots though. The video feature shoots at 720pHD, which is great for YouTube videos.
I've compared it with the droids that friends have and there really doesn't seem to be a difference worth caring about. Haven't had a chance to compare a windows phone because no one seems to keep one long enough.
The new Sony ericson has a 12 megapixel camera...and many of the new samsung(droid) phones have an 8-12 megapixel camera as well. The iPhone 4 only has a 5 megapixel camera.
Loading pics is not working for me on my 3g. When I shoot a pic or choose one from my library it closes the app. Am I missing something here?
Here's a shot of my wagon in front of the shop. I couldn't seem to get photos to upload before. Maybe now I can...
For regular point and shoot and video for the web the 5 megapixel seems to be fine and I don't see the others being better. If you're concerned about prints and larger formats then you probably should use a regular camera and not your phone.
That most likely means your phone is out of memory. Try restarting your phone and give it another shot.
The contrast and color saturation seems to **** too on the 3's. Not to mention the irritating delay in actually taking the photo once you try to push the ****on. But the worst part is the low light sensitivity. The photos aren't too bad when you have a lot of light. But, in low light, the photos are honestly just pathetic and not even worth the time. And I'm comparing this to my limited experience with other phone cameras that I have seen, not a dedicated camera or anything like that. I upgraded to the 3 hoping it was a decent camera over the first ones and was not impressed. I won't be making that mistake again until they clearly do better. I can't understand why they continually seem to do so poorly with the camera feature. It is one of the main things I wanted to work in conjunction with the rest of it and thought the extra expense warranted it. I thought it was a natural that they should have the best cameras, Apple continually seems to think not. I told them at the Apple store and they tried to give me some BS about it and make lame excuses. I like my Macs and the iphone in general, but the camera part is still a pretty big disappointment.
Look at jasonp's photo just above. I'm guessing that is a typical somewhat less than impressive iphone photo. Not ragging on you jasonp, just using it as an example of image quality. Jason, Is that from a 3 or 4?
90% of these shots are with an iPhone: http://andthesearethedays.tumblr.com/ iPhones certainly don't feature the best camera on the phone market, but they are more than capable if you understand light and how it works. There are some great apps to help as well...
