There was a thread somewhere on here all about some custom holders, actually some pretty cool stuff created by people on here, I just can't seem to find it. MY off topic Lincoln doesn't even have a lousy holder, I was reminded of this today when I wasted a really good cup of coffee by spilling it all over my legs. They aren't that untraditional, just make something cool, if you are mounting it to the seat bottom, you can always do what I did, and use a little pneumatic cylinder to make it slide in and out with some hidden buttons, All you need is the cylinder, a couple of vacuum solenoids that self vent when they aren't powered, you can find them in emissions controls at any junkyard, and one of those little plastic vacuum canisters, everything can be mounted out of sight, I used a rocker switch that reverses voltage, like a power window switch, very cool trick to push the button and it pops out. something like that would be at home in any custom. PM me if you want more details on this.

    thanks, I like this one
the finned cover would actually look pretty good flat black if it was permanent, but I think he wants something that hides away

Funny how many people open a post on cupholders just to complain about it. If I see a post about pink plaid seatcovers and know that I have no interest, I don't even open up the post and look at it. To each his own.

point was that if I needed a cup holder I'd buy, build or steal one, not come here for advice on what to do.

good for you. that is why the HAMB is straying away from it's original intent. HOT RODS and Customs, racing, history... stuff like that.

I say we turn this into a bitch fest until it gets closed.

he's building something for his interior, I don't know why it's off topic, He could have slapped a cheap walmart cupholder in, but he wanted to fabricate something that looks cool instead, There was some stuff that was fabricated in the other thread that took a lot of time to make, when is making something yourself so far off topic? it's no different then making anything else custom for your interior. he's not making it into a modern car, just adding something useful so he doesn't spill his coffee, they had things to hang on your door to hold your drink all the way in the 50's,are they as off topic? seems like if they are that old they would be traditional by now. I found one from way back that was heavy chrome plated steel, too rare to risk something happening to it, but still cool

I drive a 57 chev. pickup with a bench seat. I like to drink coffee going down the road. I took an old push through center cap from a specialty/aftermarket wheel, and attached a round magnet(from a portable cb antenna) to the base. The magnet is so strong that it holds even through the rubber floormat. I painted it with some zinc chromate primer and it's done. It holds all the common 16-20oz. convenience store cups (throwaways). Simple but it works and you can move it around wherever you want it. Traditional-Hell I don't know. Sam

as to the original idea, what you need is some round aluminum bar stock, the tube, not the solid, the inside will need to be machined to the diameter of a can, or coffee cup, or whatever, then three holes get drilled spaced evenly around it's perimeter, after this is done, use a cut off tool in the lathe to machine off a section about an 1/8 or so thick, countersink for some machine screws, and drill the holes in it big enough for the screws to slid through, the bottom piece will get tapped for the screws, cut a hole where you want it in the upholstery to the INSIDE diameter of the top piece, now mark the screw holes on the upholstery and use a punch to punch them out, the bottom piece goes under the hole, and the top piece over it, once it's screwed together, it will sandwich the upholstery between the two halves, the bottom will need to be anchored somehow, but that depends on what it's in, you will need to create some sort of bottom for the holder too of course.

I'm sorry, I didn't reqd this complete thread but here is what I did.
I used a Walmart(?) plastic version that had a flat part to fit down between buckets, I assume.
Mounted to a board and then mounted that board to another using "L" brackets. The last board is thin enough to fit under my seat.
So it slips under my bench seat and the cupholder stands up in front of my seat.
I have an auto shifter so as longg as it get into drive, I'm good.
But it works for the wife and I for trips.
I added a plastic tub in front of the cupholder to hold other stuff too.

  12. antique baby seat that has arms ...fits over top backrest put old lunchbox herman munster style in it open is cup holder closed is just old stuff

    This just in!

TORONTO – A pilot's spilled coffee accidentally triggered a hijacking alert and caused a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany, to make an unscheduled stop in Canada.
A Transport Canada report said United Flight 940 was diverted to Toronto late Monday and landed safely at Pearson International Airport. In a twist reminiscent of the plot of the 1964 Glenn Ford movie 'Fate Is the Hunter', the coffee spill caused distress signals to go out, including code 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference. ...

Another vehicle that needs a cupholder! Now can we cut the crap and just post suggestions or constructive criticisms? I have see three that I like and am looking into already to put into my truck.

she might have dropped a few down there, and can't find them, but would you risk losing a couple of fingers to retrieve a cookie from her? thats like having a steak in front a gator, you might lose some fingers in the process :D

Guess you don't like customs then. Of course the angel hair headliner serves no purpose, so it's just an extra.

I've been thinking about this one, and I think I have a good idea. I always need a spit cup handy when I drive. Anyway, there are a good variety of these available from fancy to plain stainless steel wire. They are very cheap and plain, and will bolt directly to just about anything. You could make a bracket for them onto the front of your bench seat. Water bottle cages for bicycles.

Every vehicle my Grandad owned had a thick paste of tobacco juice all down the drivers side, never saw him spit in a can or bottle... he chewed 'twist' too :p
