WOW, what a weekend! Just got back from the awards ceremony. HAMB folks RULED! All the "trophy's" were hand made by DueceC-Dan, Josh Shaw and company and couldn't be any cooler! Thanks for all your hard work Josh. They were awesome! Some awards were "picks", and others were judged by ISCA officals and from the reaction of the crowd, they agreeded with them all. Those that won were well deserved, although in my opinion everyone who brought a car down was a winner. There is no way it could have been a better time. Drew, Abomber30 took two, one being "Denise's Delight", which I was very honored to present to him. I chose Drew's '23T for a number of reason, mostly cuz it's ******* but I really dig the fact that he's running that '48 Olds straight 8 L-Head. Justin, forget his HAMB name, took an award. Detroit Draggins took "Best Club Display" that not only came with and AWESOME trophy but a $500 cash award.
LittleMan Plowboy and his Bill Hines award. He couldn't have been prouder. Well deserved. Fat Rat from Cinci also took an award but I couldn't find him afterwards to get a shot of him with it. I believe there were a couple of others awards on Saturday nite but I wasn't there so I'm not really sure. Let me just add that Bob Ashton, Autorama Bob, asked me to thank each and every person on the HAMB that came out to support the event. Whether you brought your car, helped behind the scenes or just spectated, he wanted to express his gra***ude. It will happen again next year so start planning on it now. Congrats to all!
Sure they did well at Autorama, and that's awesome, but HAMB folks just plain RULE!!! Every HAMB member I met this weekend was COOL AS ****! I didn't have NEARLY enough time to hang out with them all as much as I wanted to! Littleman's Pickup was probably my favorite vehicle there, and I normally can't stand trucks... that thing is just plain *****in'! You did good man, REAL good! I was gonna go check out Guitar Wolf with Bleed, Tuck, & Evel, but after I got to Denise's party, there was no way in Hell I was gonna go back through that road construction to hit the show... Sorry guys! Next time....for sure! (and I am STILL blown away by the fact you guys weren't ********ting about the girls! ) I picked Scotch's brain quite a bit over the weekend... he is a SMART mofo...Hope I didn't bug ya too much, and thanks for all of the info! (and to those of you that haven't done so yet, look into his "National Street Machine Club", it's AWESOME!) ThirtyfivePickup, it was really cool to put a non-lampshade face with the voice... Everyone in the HAMB section, (Abomber30 & crew, Plowboy & crew, etc...) I don't even know what to say, they were just a bunch of genuinely cool people. Also: you IL guys that got invited to Frankenmuth, my baby momma says it's cool for you guys to crash here (about 10 miles away), as long as you don't mind my daughters waking you up at the ***scrack of dawn! To all the GMB's, **** you guys, I see you all the time! To anyone I forgot, I'm really sorry, it was "sensory overload" for me this weekend, You're included in the "cool as ****" part! The HAMB Rules....I'm proud to be a part of it.
Sorry I missed meeting up with you guys(girls).Who won the "***** dropper" maniquin award?Hope next year the ba*****t will be overrun with HAMB cars!!Walking through those imports ****ed!
Sensory overload. I cannot believe that the Autorama and our (Chicago) World of Wheels are put on by the same people. (Not a criticizm of our show, just kudos for Detroit) That show was awesome! I was a critic and sceptical about mixing the imports and our crowd... but it worked out well. I didn't hear of any bad stories... no 'burning rice' etc. I will agree with HRTH... my favorite ride there was Littleman's truck. That thing is perfect. Upstairs, I would have to go with Royce's RPU over the Foose 36. The coolest part about the ba*****t was checking out all of the cool **** sprinkled a****st the cars. Lots of people hoarding cool hot rod parts. I took 400+ pictures that I will pick and post tomorrow night. It was good to finally meat (oops) you GMB. Everyone at the party at Denise's was awesome! Even naked guy. I got to har*** Scotch for shooting my El Camino and it not getting published... which I've been waiting a long time to do! After meeting HRTH, I have a sudden hankering for shish-ka-bobs! ...and lastly, but not least... the hostest with the mostest for thinking of me and remembering the lampshade. You are awesome! Mike
I don't have an idea, but I saw Dave trying to sneek out with some babe in his truck. She musta been looking for something behind the seat. I had a great time and met some really cool people. I got to lend the great BobK a dollar, I met DirtyT's beautiful mother, but probably my most memorable moment was when I was ready to leave. There was a truck trying to come into the building as we were lined up to pull out. Josh Shaw was standing near my car. He walked over and said, and I qoute, "Pull up a little so that ***hole can pull through". I'm not freakin' kidding, he actually said that to me! I guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Seriously, I'm glad I could be a part of this event.
I also had a ball all weekend. SO much cool stuff but even more cool people! MAJOR thanks to Denise for making so much happen. I will always trust her cookies but never her directions....heh heh heh!!! Seriously HRLC is awesome and she made me & my crew feel more than welcome. She also had my favorite whiskey on hand....gotta love that. It was really cool talking with everyone about everything! I got to talk horsepower, style, history, and more with people who actually knew what they were talking about. That's rare... Personally, I liked the HAMB cars sharing the floor with the imports. The contrast was obscene and made for a dramatic display. I'd put fat money on the HAMB cars influencing the import crowd more than vice versa. Besides, they always have more chicks hanging around the imports...it kept the ba*****t level full of things to look at. ~ I had a great time and am hoping to enjoy the company of many of these same great people when Dream Cruise comes around...I might even drive. We'll see.... Thanks again to everyone for everything, especially Denise. You rule! Scotch~!
I didn't get to meet as many of the HAMBers as I would have like, but traveling with my buds from Jersey, we wanted to see as much of the action as possible! Great beers in Detroit, great Dancers in Canada! I enjoyed meeting the HAMBers I did, though. Fat Hack, DirtyT, Evel, Bobbleed, youngrodder, Scotch, BobK, Tuck, and all the rest of you! (glad Bobbleed didn't kick my ***, either!!!!) REAL sorry I didn't get to meet Kustombuilder, just to shake his hand! Also missed Unkl Ian as well. Nice to see old friends, the Butlers, Moriarty, Chromerat, Adonis John, Skatefink, etc. Most of all...HRLC. The HAMB is blessed to have such a warm outgoing amb***ador for our group. She should be named HAMBer of the year. I didn't get to attend her party, due to the Canadian Whirlwind Reprobate Tour, but I think it's fantastic to have someone offer up so much of her time, living space, and COOKIES to the rest of us.
Great Pictures! Keep 'em coming, I don't have any. I don't know what it is about Detroit, the air must be dirtier than IL. I picked more boogers there than I do out in the cornfields! Ask Scotch and CAS, they saw me pick a winner!
I heard the Fleetline MarkX chopped was up for a chop award of some sort. I'm not a big fan of GasMonkey Garage, but I do like Mark. And I hope being parked next to the car everyone likes to hate didn't distract from his work. Anybody know what happened there?
agreed, Mark is a ruler and that chop is a work of art. i heard stories all weekend about what a ***** the GasMonkey Garage guy was. on setup day he was throwing a fit because of where they were placed. he figured he deserved a more prominent place so everyone could see him. he was also pissed that the Detroit Draggins display hid his fancy trailer from everyones view as they came into the ba*****t. i was'nt real impressed with the "i'm better than everyone else" at***ude. he was also overheard telling everyone how he built the coffee table car totaly himself (how many of us saw it on Ebay 3 different times from 3 different owners??) and that he drives it ALL THE TIME. maybe in a parking lot where there is nothing to run into and no SUVs to run him over like roadkill. i have no respect for people who claim other people's work as their own. no respect at all. sorry for the rant. i'm sure others will chime in with what they heard. ...but, aside from that it was one hell of a good time and all the HAMB folks were were a pleasure to BS and hang out with.
I talked to the broad there (Gas Monkey) to see if I could get her to say that they built the 5 window, and to my surprise, she said they redid the motor and painted it, but did not actually build it. Shocked. I should have asked the guy...
Had a great time, show was the best in yrs, though none have been bad!! My feet still hurt!! so many cars so little time!! It was fun to meet some new people and finally put a face with the names. Saw a lot of friends from both here and the RRT great to see everyone again. Ran into Ray hard at work stripping, got to see Bill Hines again and talk with him and Teddy Z for a while. Found out that Chopolds is a friend from yrs and yrs ago, didn't know that he was on the H.A.M.B.!!! Great to see you again Mark!! Missed seeing Moriarity and Jack Walker, it was so crowded. Glad we had Rudy to navigate us to Denises' from Cobo. Even though he took us the scenic route thru Beruit !!! But we didn't get lost like some others, lol. and a special Big Big hug and thanks to Rudy (you know why) and to Beatnik!!! Rob wanted to be sure I had reserved a spot with you Gus, for Billitproof!!! He had a great time, even though he didn't know that many people Thanks for the party Denise it was awsome!!!! I'm surprised your neighbors let you live there! what with naked men running around and all!! Debb
There was a young guy at the Gas Monkey display who gave us the whole story on the Fleetline. Good, friendly guy with a really cool job and lot of knowledge. I wish my car-related job was that cool.
Yes, that Fleetline took an award. One of the HAMB guys that was standing next to me when the award was announed said that it was built by MarkX so I'm ***uming it's one and the same. Congrats Mark! It looked awesome.
It was nice meeting you finally Denise. We had a blast there and am re-couping now... as I'm sure Denni & Matt are :O Our thanks to Denni for inviting us, saving a room for us and having introduced us to the BEST pizza in the world. 8 rolls of film taken.... keep the pictures comming, when we get our's I'll try to post some. Leigh & John
This may be getting OT, buuuuut, somebody give me the lowdown on Gas Monkey. Suddenly they're everywhere. I thought they were just some guys with a shop in Texas maybe, totally underground and stuff. I love the Fleetline! I have one, and that chop is on the list of things to do. I saw pics on the 'Net a month ago. I was really suprised to see it there at Autorama. But then I get to the Autorama and there's this big trailer and all this merch. And I was talking to somebody that said that Gas Monkey bought that car, that they don't do the work on them. So I went and hung out around the trailer, and listened to a reporter interview a guy (presumably the MFIC). I only heard a couple minutes of convo, but from what I could gather he was putting together a pitch for a "reality" show...? I mean I am NOT here to talk bad about anyone or gossip or anything, and I salute anyone trying to make a buck off of their dreams, but I just want to know. Is this a custom shop? Is this a brokerage for customs? A R&D company? Is this McLowbrow? Signed, Dumbfounded in Detroit
Words don't begin to describe what a cool show this was. Josh Shaw is my hero, those awards are true pieces of art, P***ion? Just look into that young mans eyes. He runs with a very talented crew too. The lower level ROCKED hard. I wish Race could have been there. Oh, and that was me that got the footprints on the guys white carpet upstairs in the front row, and I got paid to do it
..he's MY hero too. I managed to snag the piece of art he painted for the charity jam and it is AWESOME!! I hope to put photos up on Friday...........
Hamb meets are still gay.........but you Hambs are pretty neat. The weekend was amazing...... It was great to see everyone... The trophys were awsome, that guy who made them rules for sure.
Evel-Bleed-Tuck and JohnnyCHERRYcola are dangerous to hang out with, you must use caution!!!!!!!!!!!......That was a great time guys! Thanks for lettin me hang out with you all ,I had a blast and have great respect for all of you! I want to buy a Pug...........I kinda miss Plowboys hugs he tended to get alittle frisky at times, keep your eye on that one. It was great to put a face on all the computer names and am glad I ventured out............And for the Danger -Danger crew, I say F"in" AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!
People were talking about 2 things all week end. One was what they refered to as "the Rat Rods downstairs" EVERYBODY loved it. Hopefully next year it will be bigger and better. I was there for 3 days, only got to see some of what was between the door and the panel jam.But I made a point of finding the 2 Bubble cars upstairs, and getting downstairs.Well worth the effort, and my hat is off to everyone involved. Hopefully next year will be bigger and better, and they can move the Late Models upstairs again.
