I just wanted to share what I've been up to the last few months. I built a new car!

It got started right before Thanksgiving when my brother sold his 27 coupe body. He had a complete coupe body that had a very crooked chop done by a 17 year old with no tape measure and another half of a body that someone had cut the roof off of years prior. It was more solid than the whole car but missing a lot of the usual parts, like doors and a decklid. But between the two cars one good one could be had. The guy that was interested couldn't afford the package deal for both so he took the whole car and left me with the other.

Well you know how it goes, you start looking at it and its not that bad really, and it wouldn't be that hard to build, and I do have a lot of spare parts laying around....

So after a quick inventory it turns out I have all the components for it with the exception of the decklid. Thats ok I don't need one right now anyway right? I can always score one later or make one, so I am good. But short on funds. This is where it gets good. Although my Dad and I get along great, we have not had the best of luck working together. Well after a little talking I get him really interested in the Idea. I can do the fab work and he can do the mechanical so we both have our own thing to do. Working together, but separately. Splitting the cash outlay cuz he isn't rich either. Now I hit him with the twist, finished, running car by Big 3. 20 working days at the shop. (we only work weekends and not Christmas or New years weekend) Now he's scared. but I am confident.

Thanksgiving day comes and I get on the net and order the few things we need to get started, tie rod ends and bungs, and kingpins.

December 4 we start, he pulls the motor and trans out of the donor truck and I start on the frame. Well to shorten the story some it goes right along and except for a couple minor snafu's we boogie right along. January 16th we finish the mockup and blow it apart to finish weld and paint the ch***is.

Now I had decided to paint the frame and engine and pretty much everything except the body, because I really didn't think I had time, however after painting the rest and looking at the body I knew that wasn't a good plan. A friend of my Dad's has a paint shop and had given us a bunch of quarts of touch up paint that they had mixed for collision repair. There were several quarts of silver and then some misc. blues and greens, and I really like green but I have a car with green on it so I went blue.

Feb 5 started re ***embly and on feb 19 I drove it. With Pop doubting all the way that it would get done and myself busting *** to make sure it did, WE did it. I couldn't have done it all alone, at least not in that small amount of time. (the sedan was two years in the making) so I feel great. We both learned a lot, Especially about getting along, and had a great time doing it. I really think it is a cool car, I had a blast cruizing to, around, and home from big three in it. We got really lucky on the motor, being as it came out of an old well drilling truck but either was well takin care of or just gone through, because Dad took off the front of the motor to fix the fuel pump cam that was the reason the truck was parked, and there was no sludge in it at all. It also has 50 lbs of oil pressure when warm.
Well anyway here are a couple of pics of it. My brain hurts from all this typing.

Glad you shared. Cool story and hot rod looking car.

Aint that what it is about? Relationship? I will hazard a guess both you and your dad have a greater appreciation for each other.

Nice looking car and commentary to boot. Working with your Dad may not have been easy but in the long run you will treasure the moments. Strike while the iron is hot and get started on another one. :D

Very cool project with your dad. Is that a hub cap you have for a air cleaner? It looks really cool, I was thinking the same thing for a project i am in the process of.

Hey Knuckle, yeah its a hubcap, it was all I had and I like it. I'm glad someone else does too.
Yes Glenn I've benn working my fingers to the bone, but took my first day off since turkey day today, WOOHOO. Now the delemna I face is which car to take to Vegas? I love the sedan dearly but the roadster is fun in its own right. The part I forgot to mention is that I'm supposed to sell the roadster, but there's no rush on that so... We will see

Well I worked on a deklid today, so much for a weekend off, I just want it done I guess. I found the rear bumper in some junk and I've been looking for a good project for it and this seemed to fit it.
Pogo it took me 2 years to finish my sedan and I still want to tear it all apart to do more so don't feel too bad.
Joe sorry to have missed you We were down in the swamp area by the river all weekend.
I have to be careful or I may do Patch panels next.

mate, that is an awesome effort in such a short period of time.

i am so envious of you guys. the registration authorities over here would not let you anywhere NEAR a public road in that car. you just CANNOT put a rod together out of bits and register it. it ****s...

seriously though, that looks like an awesome machine, and the story to go with it was great. thanks...
