The car was on the cover and featured in the March 1961 Rodding and Re-Styling magazine and until last week, that was all I knew existed about the car. The 1929 Ford roadster was built by my Father, Paul Egerton and his brother, Gene Egerton, in Kansas City Missouri at their shop, Gene and Pauls Customs, for Frank Pennington. One of the Time Life (LIFE Magazine) pictures displays about 12 trophies in the foreground, but I have no idea what shows the car was ever in. I do remember stories of how Mr. Pennington failed to completely pay for the car, which would explain why my Dad never knew of the awards or the LIFE photos. I remember my Dad mentioning something about the car winning a Roadster of the Year award or some kind of award like that but again, not sure of the year. I would think the award would have been in the time frame of 1959, 1960 or 1961 but I am not sure. I also found a reference to Mr. Pennington and the roadster in the September 1961 issue of Hot Rod magazine but I have not received a purchased copy of that issue yet (hopefully USPS will deliver it today). My Father passed away 2 years ago and my Uncle just last year. They were both great car builders and I would just like to find out what ever happened to the car.. THANKS for the help!!
I received the September 1961 issue of Hot Rod magazine and found 2 pages with photo's of the car.. Any help or additional information on this car would me REALLY appreciated!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!
That looks like a fine show car of the era. Looks like it started out as a Coupe and had the top removed, hope you find the current owner.
