I just sold one of my two chevy's, trying to buy another Ford, I always bought a chevy because I couldn't afford a Ford. The 48 chevy is definitely an easier car to modify than a ford but their value just doesn't go up with time. I see some really nice 48 chevy's for sale and I know that owner has a lot more money in it than he is asking. I'll keep my 48 because I have it made into a good driver now and my wife really likes it.
I used to be a p***ionate Chevy only guy when I was younger and leaning towards drag racing. When I began to interest of older cars first three rods were Chevies too but recent five have been Model A's. My commuters are Chrysler and CHEVY truck. So now I have my own form of big three mix.
I can understand what your going through, I still have mostly chevys. But between the hamb, my friends I have started to appreciate every form of hot rods. Life is great.
.....I like them both........can't say if one is better than another......Ford and Chevy are easy to work on......there all fun to drive.....
GMC's are excellent aren't they? I've painted myself into a corner. I can't own anything except for GM. But now if I found a nice Ford built Ford tough with Chevy stuff I might make an exception.
chevy guy born and raised... but i can appreciate all the old stuff i get in my shop to work on. an auto restorer/ customizer who doesn't like fords, is like a hockey player that doesn't like ice, a landscaper that doesn't like gr***, or a baker that doesn't like flour.
I like Fords, Mopars, and ABC GM prouducts (anything but Chevy) with a slant toward the Olds and Buick lines. I liked Chevrolets long ago... then I owned a bunch of them. Pretty well ****ed up my opinion on them for life. Kind of funny, since the Olds and Buick cars I love so much are mostly Chevy anyway!
When I was young (4-5) I thought EVERYONE had a bunch of sbc's lying in their yard. As I got older I started rounding up all the stuff my dad didn't want. The result is I have more chevy stuff than I will ever use. However, My f100 is WAY better truck than my c10 but I love em both. My ot plymouth (69 Valiant) is an absolute thrill to drive. My 33 coupe and 48 aerosedan, both chev, fill their part of my "void". Should be enough right? Heck no!!!!!!!!! I am planning a 49 F1 with a flat 8 for my daily but a 50 IHC is probably gonna happen first. Yeah it's a disease! peace
I used to be a chevy guy, then a mopar guy.. then I realized that just about anything old is cool in my book
I was all chevy as well for 35 years. My daily drivers and all my cl***ic stuff were Chevy! Now the only Chevy I own is a truck I took on trade and I need to get rid of it> I do still however like SBC motors and will continue to use them in a few projects. I currently own 5 Fords 1 Rambler 1 Dodge and a Scion!
from the time I've been playing in the sand box, if it had wheels, I liked it....I even swapped the wheels on my 1 ton Tonka to my drop side Corvair Horse hauler...looked rad...to a 4 year old....been hooked ever scince.....
40 plus years ago when I got my first car, it was a CHEVROLET. I have had Camaros, Chevelles, El Caminos ... 1955 Chevrolet cars and trucks and my last 4 or 5 daily drivers were new Silverados. I also had multiple VWs, Toyotas and other GM vehicles ( Pontiac and Cadillac ). BUT ... I like the older Fords also. Owned a 32 Ford of one kind or another for over 30 years. I like 1940 Fords, 48/50 F1's and of course the 56 F-100 Big Windows. I never owned a Ford over three months that I did not install a GM engine in it ( or it already had one ) Had a 49 Mercury coupe and now a 49 Mercury M-47 pickup. Never been much on the Mopar stuff but ... they have some NICE models also. I guess in my older age, I like most anything older with wheels. The HAMB has made me appreciate vehicles and styles ... I have never wanted ... and still do not want to own. Liking something and wanting to own one is way different for me.
My first car was a Ford. My first new car was a Plymouth. Then a string of Fords with an occasional Mopar and GM. So I count myself a Ford guy at heart. When I got into old stuff it's been Ford trucks only. 48 F1, 48 F6, 50 F4, 52 F2 and 52 F6. There are 3 other Ford trucks in the pasture - 62 Uni, 73 4x4 and 77. My current daily drivers include a 97 Dodge with the 12v ***mins Turbo. It will go in the 48 F6 eventually. Otherwise I'm falling over Ford engines of all types. I'd love to have a 34 or 35 Hudson 2 dr Terraplane... but settled for an '07 Shelby : )
First car was a 56 chevy, first engine i rebuilt was a 283, back in 85, owned probably 20 different Nova's put a half a million miles on a 70 2 dr coupe. Right now I have chevys and a pontiac, but i would like to get a 31-34 5w ford someday, if i can afford one, or of course a woody, especially since i've been affected by the hamb
