I want to move the shifter from the column to the floor. Which brand and model would you recommend? I am currently running the original engine and trans.

    THANKS!

Agree. Get a Hurst, have never heard a bad word about them.

If it's for your '51 truck, I don't think Hurst has an application for it.
    Try the Hurst web site.

I went through that awhile back. Ditto on the Hurst. Be prepared it will run ya about 3 to 5 hundo with the install kit. Then another 70 to 100 with the shifter boot and knob, if you go Hurst. I went J.C Whitney and Advanced Auto for those.

Don't cheap out on the shifter. I've driven some cars with sloppy 3-speed floor shifters and hated every minute of it.

If you don't want to fork out big bux for brand new....use craiglistier.com...and type in floorshift, or HURST, or Ansen, or Spark-O-Matic (heh heh - that name always killed me). Try ebray, but sometimes that stuff gets a bit pricey anyway. Use the "nearest distance" qualifier to find things closer to you as an option to paying freight.

There is no replacement for the Hurst shifter . They are the best and always will be . Now you might have to get one then make your own mounting plate to bolt to the trans but not a big deal . Then hopefully you will have shift rods long enough to heat and bend them to work .
    Good luck .

I bought a Hurst Master shift 3 on E-Bay. This is the same as a Comp. Plus shifter but for a 3 speed. I fabricated a bracket to mount to the stock '49 Ford 3 speed. The shifter was # 35.00
on E Bay. it came with the linkage and all. The mount plate was made from some 3/16" plate hanging around the shop.

Here are some images of what I did. Hope they help.

Shifters are one of the places where buying cheap stuff is a false economy; buying a quality shifter like a Hurst is money well spent...
