I have been dying to go for years! I just never get there. Only time I went was on my way to Wyoming a few years back. Supposed to do it again this year. Maybe I can talk the wife into going at THE RIGHT TIME. What is the dates? I may have to skip out on working the Monterey Motorsports Reunion this year.
For all of you that stay at the bend (which it seems there are more and more each year), remember, you're staying there entirely at no charge - FREE. I think everyone can probably find it within themselves to make a $20 donation to Save the Salt and help preserve what we all love so much. I'll stop by once or twice with a collection box.
It's on the top of my "Bucket List" has been for years, wonder if the cards will ever fall in place. Photos posted here on the HAMB are as close as most people get.
Best bang for the buck is just to Join BNI ...you get admission all week for free, a pin, patch, rulebook, poster, program, 4 issues of our newsletter AND a decal for your window...PLUS you will he help supporting the salt. It's the cheapest way to go and good for your soul.... http://scta-bni.org/pdf/BNI membership 2010.pdf
Be aware that the 150 club dosen't run during speedweek. If you are there at Speedweek you will be a month early for the 150 club runs. Check the USFRA web page for 130 - -150 club info.
Terrific! Right on! At the bend. It is $40 for the week or $10 a day I believe. Or better join the SCTA/BNI! Yes, great suggestion. And ummm, yeah, I will be there...
Wanna Go... It's a 4 hour drive from home. Getting a car ready... not sure if I can officially run it though. $$ plus Safety??
Get a rule book. Little chance of your getting your roadster to meet the rules to run on the salt. Roll cage, racing seat, fire suit, fire bottles, nets, floor, so on and so forth. It's not for street rods much anymore.
I was just kidding Man.. (thinking of Bert Munro at safety check). I would like to get out there to watch though. I will make a trip out there just to take a spin around for a day when speed week isn't going on.
It's a cute car. Maybe with a bolt in cage you could run 130 club in September. Don't get stuck in the thin stuff when you are spinning around by yourself. It's a long walk to the truck stop. And a very expensive tow.
Probably a couple miles but then once you're on the salt it's another few miles to the pits/tracks. I wouldn't plan on walking. Bicycles maybe, walking probably not.
Holy Shit did you really get a ticket?!?!?!? That's a Bonneville tradition, lighting things in fire and such.
I'm no morning person either....but Speed Week is only once a year, and missing a sunrise on the Salt is a sin! Bob K and I were up before his dash board Jesus was even awake.
The only food to eat at Bonneville is shit, crap or turds! I buy cans of raviolis and sleep in my van out near the bend. I'm a cheap date if you whisper in my ear you might be able to treat me to some truck stop cuisine!
Yeah but that SLC Chinese stuff killed me and I can eat horse dung with no ill effects! Bringing real food and a grill.
If your driving a late model vehicle with out of state plates WATCH OUT!!! I got 2 tickets in less than 12 hours for Chicken Shit. A burned out turn indicator, ( had a bulb in the car, the cop wouldn't let me off even though I replaced it right there) and then expired registration. My tabs said "August", didn't know my registration said Aug. 9th. (it was Aug. 14th) But he sure did. Then to SALT the wound, when I got home, I got a letter from them asking how my experience was, and did I find the court house easily? I shot off a letter telling them FULLY what I thought of their system. While I'm sitting beside the road, Trad Rods were roaring by with open headers, no bumpers, horns, windshields..... They obviously didn't want to ticket them, just the guys like me that come to SEE them. Be legal, be smart, and obey law to the point of being ridiculous. DAMN!!! ticketed for lighting fireworks at the Bend? What ever happened to a good Magnesium fire?
Hey careful what you say, remember the high water out there a couple of years ago? Dont jinx it We come down from Washington too. All we have ever had was a late model with zero problems with the popo. What kind of late model you driving? Now you got me thinking about it lol.
I'm going this year but most likley just for a day.I dont live that far away.Bring sunscreen for the under side of your nose. The sun is really bright and reflects right off the salt. And have a good time
