I have not hooked up the brakes yet. May need a bracket made to get them to work. Has anyone ever ran 32-34 brakes on an A like this? how do you hook up the brake rods? I did clean and lube those brakes, so either way they should work better
Haha... well, I haven't ever run them before and my "pile" isn't even on the tarmac yet, so I know less than you. All I have is a bunch of hearsay about the conversion. I'm sure there's info around here, I'll have to do some digging. If I come up with anything soon, I'll PM you or link it up in this thread.
They are a 12" brake, were as Model A is 11". Also, the A's have a tin type drum were the 32-up is a cast drum...that makes a big difference on stopping. Get some "Ted's Kits" for the brakes. I think they are like 260.00 a set (4 brakes) and convert the stock brakes to a full floating brake like a Bendix brake. Makes em stop WAAAAAAAY better. He makes em for A and V8 brakes. http://www.flatheadted.com/modules.php?name=ShoppingSystem&op=product&prodcode=TRUCKSTOP
I guess it has been a while, so here is an update. I moved... again... had to set up shop... again... was working on other stuff the rest of the time. I got laid off on Christmas Eve. The good news, have had some time to work on my coupe again. I cut out the driver's side wheel well to replace. That is when I found the sub frame was rusted real bad. It looked like swiss cheese. I got a new back half of sub frame, replaced. I also got the new wheel well welded in. At the Portland Swapmeet last April, I came across a very unique Stromberg carb. Some one had made a homemade "Scott's Top" like top. It's cooler then ****, so I thought it would be neat to duplicate to run duel carbs. I worked on the new duplicate the last couple days. I picked up a duel down draft in a trade, so I threw that on today to. The carbs are just cores, plus still need to do work on the tops. I also FINALLY got the remainder on the aprons off. It was really bugging my dad. Here it is shoved outside today. Does not run with the new carbs yet...
Here are some up close pics of the intake and carbs Here is the new top I made. If anyone knows any history on these, let me know. I figure it was used for some kind of drag, or maybe even roundy round?
Hot damn dude this thing might be cooler then your brothers!!! It's turning out great and I love everything about it. It's going to look great going down the road at a top speed of 45MPH.
Hahaha... no smiley, even. I wonder how you'll like those carbs without the chokes and such? I've always loved the stance of this coupe. It's coming along nicely, good work.
One thing I know about Hotrod-40 and his brother Chris and that going slow is a serious business so I never kid with a subject like that Brent. Nobody goes slow like the PNW brothers! Just kidding man, I know that thing'll scream seeing how well versed all of you are in those bangers.
Not sure....but they are very well done whoever did 'em.... Yeah...was on Cl for aonly a few days...maybe new owner will try to "save" her...
Man, if that was mine I would add juice brakes and drive the snot out of it just the way it sits, you can always finish it later. I started on mine about 5 years ago and I'm not even close to finishing it, get it on the road and enjoy it for awhile. I like it
That looks so rad dude! Way better in the daylight I love the twice-pipes on that car, too. I'm not just saying this because your Brother, but I think that is one of the most sinister looking A's out there. Bangers forever
My ol coupe never had chokes and never had a problem staring. 2 carbs on those things is quite a bit, even for a built B!
First off, of course it is cooler then my brothers... Secondly, While I am blazing down the road with the wind in my hair at 45 MPH..., have fun sitting in your non running car(s) in the Iron Lords club house, sipping on a cold PBR. HAHA... Psss... Burn!
