Thiking about a combo belt sander and disc machine. A couple for sale up here used, with a 6" wide belt and a 10" disc.

Just wondered what the minimum required motor power is for finishing the edges of steel brackets ?

One of them has a 1 HP motor.

Mine has 1 hp, wouldn't want it any other way. And get at least 36 grit for the disc and 60 grit for the belt. I keep one side of the belt for finish work, other side for rough work. Get Morton blue Zirconia belts, best I've ever used. They cost more but last long enough to pay for themselves. One of my favorite tools.

Got a 1.5 HP on my Rockwell belt/disc sander and it is the most useful metal finishing tool I have ever seen. You can't stop it with metal.
