I have a couple Ford carbs model 8HA and was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me who they were made by and if they are any good for running on a dual intake for a Ford Flathead 226, 6 cylinder motor. Both are rebuilt and in really good condition. Thanks
They are made by Holley, and a single one was the native carburetor for the 226, circa 1950. Two might be a little much. If you tinker with them, you might be able to get them to work ok.
If 2 are too many of these what would the recommended twin carb setup be for the 226? Or why did they make a dual intake. Just asking.
"They" made a dual intake for the customer that ordered: (1) intake (2) "3/4" or "full" race cam (3) high compression pistons (4) high performance distributor (5) headers (6) one additional carburetor The intake was drilled for the original carb, as the customer already had one. If you make the above modifications to your engine, should work well. if you are just going for looks, somewhat smaller carburetors would be in order. Jon.
So again what would the recommended twin carb setup be for the 226? I have an old book that says when using 2 carbs like mine to go with a 1 size larged main jet. So I am just wondering?
With no disrespect intended, you have asked a very easy question with a very complex answer. First, do you need a spark valve for the distributor you are using? Many Fords of this period do. Second, how much has been done to your engine, or is it basically stock? Third, do you want something which is "period correct" (built during the same time period as your engine)? Fourth, do you want carburetors originally used by Ford, or will you accept GM carburetors? Fifth, and one of the most important criteria, can you buy real gasoline, or are you relegated to buying the downgraded ethanol mix? Sixth, maybe unimportant, maybe important to you, do you want a manual choke carb or some form or automatic choke carb? If you wish to discuss, 573-392-7378 (9-4 Mon-Wed central time). Advice is free (perhaps overpriced ) and no obligation to buy from us. Jon.
Flathead Ford 226, 6 cylinder with a Mallroy dual point distributor. I have a dual one barrel intake and am looking for an aluminum head.Only 12,000 miles on motor original. I have the Ford carbs I am not a GM man but would use anything but GM. I can get the good gas which is what I run in my Harley all the time and I already have a manual choke on the truck so would like to stay that way.
You will probably receive several recommendations. I do not know what you need for your distributor. As far as carburetors to run the engine: Hudson used several different size 6 cylinders with dual carbs from the factory. One used from 1953 to 1955 was a 202 CID. These used two Carter type WA-1 carburetors, part number 2013s. These carbs are already calibrated to use as a pair, and they have leather accelerator pumps (will work with ethanol, if necessary). This model also has automatic chokes. This would be my second recommendation (you ruled out the first not wanting to use GM carbs). Other options might be any of a myriad of different (you should use two identical) Autolite carbs from mid-1960's Ford 200 CID engines. Jon.
I have had very good luck running two square bowl Holley one barrels (Model 1905? originally for a '54 Ford truck with a 6 cyl.) on a Nicson intake with a Knudsen head, 3/4 grind cam and home made split manifold. Pertronix electronic ignition.
