Hello! I have stopped by from time to time but finally decided figure out a profile etc. I have a '53 Belair under construction. It has some custom touches, small block, etc. I have decided this is the year I finish it. My goal has been to finish this spending as little money as possible. So far, I have been able to horse trade, buy/sell and fabricate to the point I have only a couple hundred into this thing. I thought it would be cool to work it that way as I can imagine that is how hot rods came together back in the day.
Thanks for the intros everyone! Holy CRAP there is a lot of info here... I have been over on the 4x4 side of things for a while and have some catching up to do on the street side. I have made some progress on the 53 and will post some pics on the main forum.
Here is the short version of the progression of this project. It all started with a 1974 Kurtis Craft Runner Hull V-drive. When I bought it, it was an absolute basket case. I cant find any pics but here is what it looked like after I painted it and got it all together. During the painting proccess, I realized why I don't do it for a living.. fiberglass is nasty, and it is a TON of work. After taking the boat out twice, I realized I would probably kill myself in that thing.. so I decided to look for another project. I ended up selling the boat and trading the motor for this: I needed some parts and it just so happened a friend of mine had an unfortunate incident with a tree and his mint chevy short wide This truck was PERFECT until it met the tree. I was able to buy it for a song, keep the motor/tranny/etc. and sell the parts for way more Here is a pic of the 350 installed in the 53 Here is how it sat for three years... I drove it once, the steering box was all jacked up and I was deciding what I wanted to do with the thing. Now, I am back into the swing of things on this project. I have been lurking for a bit, reading as much as I can and see there is some debate over the gasser/street freak look but all of the cars I have seen with this particular body style, I like the straight axles the best. I ordered the speedway kit and in three hours last week, a friend of mine and I did this:
One of the mistakes I made during the first build was I kinda slapped it together with not much regard to craftsmanship. This go around will be a bit slower.. some of the amazing projects I have seen here have been inspiring.
Interesting thread...where in the world did you find such a bitchin' project car? It looks vaguely familiar...
I got the car from some tweaked out knuckle dragger you ever get the 'ol ladys Chevelle goin? (Assuming this is the Scott that I think it is..)
I actually have been making some progress and will eventually get around to starting a build thread soon.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from Nor Cal and the Cam-Snappers Hot Rod Club! Check out the club group! Love to have ya! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/g...hp?groupid=619
Thanks for the welcome! I did start a build thread... it is very modest compared to some of the amazing work done by HAMBers
Hey, just because I live in Spanmethaway doesn't mean I'm a tweaker...I will, however, claim the 'knuckle dragger' status...! Cool, get the car done! The Chevelle has been at a friend's house getting the quarters hung...for about the last 2 yrs. Hopefully it'll be done soon, she wants to get to it!
its crazy how much time can go by.. this carcass has been staring at me for too damn long.. A buddy of mine went through the same thing with the "body guy" taking three years to finish a paint job..
