We want to go this direction with our '41 Ford 2dr. I've read about the stuff ford offered, I think in '47 and '48, but I need to see a picture of what it looks like installed. Maybe I can fabricate something satisfactory. Thanks.
OK, I found plenty of pictures of the lower brackets, and I've found some pictures of some guys here have fabricated, which is the route I think I'm going to take (as opposed to paying $75 for a hunk of rusty metal on ebay). But how about the upper mounts? How do they attach to the crossmember, is it a long bolt that goes all the way through or what?
i didnt wanna pay that rediculas f-ing price for those stock pieces (that for some reason they dont repop....) so i just welded on some 1/2 plate that i shaped. then drilled and tapped some steel bar stock and cut it to about an inch and welded it to the crossmember.
the original top mount on a 48 is a long bolt that goes through the cross member, has steps machined to fit tight. what i did is the original style lower mounts an for uppers us a peice of 2" channel iron about 2.5 long to go from the bottom lip of the frame to almost the top then drilled a 1/2" hole that would match with the orig. hole if you don't have the hole it about half way. get some of those shock mount bolts, short stud one end fatter washer then two rubber sleeves bolt to the channel postion on frame then weld on. did front mounts in a simular fashion Ford upper mount and made lower monut in axle Laurie
I love the ideas, the problem with our car is it's still got the body on the frame-- not sure I can get up there to do the welds. I'll take a look. How about this hillbilly scheme? We've got the gas tank out, how about drilling through the front and back of the crossmember, shoving a real long grade 8 all the way through, jamming it tight with a lock washer and nut, then just putting a sleeve, washers, rubber bushings on the part that's still sticking out to make a shock mount. Anybody tried that? I doubt it would be that easy as doing anything to the crossmember will be a pain with the body on.
