I found a relatively painless way to get a ***le here in Sunny Florida last week. I did this on a bike, but according to the ***le folks it's the same deal for cars and trucks. You need a bill of sale that has all the vehicle info including vin or ID number, sale price, etc. The bill of sale can be hand written, nothing fancy, but MUST state " vehicle is free of all liens and claims". And it must have the address of both the seller and you the buyer. You also need a Vin Verification form filled out and the vehicle inspected. The person doing the inspection can be a cop, a county tag person, a military officer, or a notary public. These two forms are all it takes to ***le a vehicle here in Florida. As long as the number isn't in the system as currently ***led, or hot, you're in, good to go. My cost with sales tax was less than $100 and I had the ***le and tag when I left the tag office.
SEE?!?!? WE AIN"T ALL JUST ABOUT SUNSHINE DOWN HERE!!! Florida is a great state when it comes to the legalities of hot rods.
Glad to read you didn't have to jump through hoops and so on! But really glad to read you did it the right way! Congrats!
Just got back from the dmv they said I can't get a ***le because the previous owner did not have proof of ownership. All I bought was a frame and body without engine or much else. I have a bill of sale with all the info I thought they needed. What else do you think I should do?
I had a similar thing happen to me in the past. I just went to a different Tax collectors office and no problem!
I have never ever had a problem with tagging here in Fl.as long as you have the correct 2 forms your good to go.Makes it easy that my neighbor is a cop.
Thanks for the info Squigy . Not to sound dumb but the 2 forms -are they the bill of sale and the vin verification ? ThanksPurplerod
you need proof of ownership if it came from a non ***le state all you need is a tag rec. and a bill of sale and vin form if it came from a ***le state you will need a ***le. bought a car from tx with a bill of sale and can not get it ***led i bought another car from ala and got it ***led with just a tag rec and bill of sale an my niece works at the tag office
The state DMV now has there own bill of sale forms that they will give you for free, also a form that you have the seller signs stating there are no leins on the vehicle and the form where you have a cop inspect the vehicle to verify its what you state it is.Just don"t go in there running your mouth saying **** like the guy I bought it from didn"t have a ***le. and the worst thing you can do is try to register a car with a bill of sale signed by the guy you bought it from but the ***le in the name of who he got it from.I won"t buy a car or truck from anybody if the paperwork ain"t right, nothing but problems.
I live in Florida, knew someone who worked in DMV and was still told there's no way to get a Florida ***le without having a signed ***le from the person the vehicle was purchased from or a registration in that person's name along with a bill of sale.
This is because the DMV workers each have a different opinion of whats acceptable. Go to another person and you get a different story. Heck, I had to educate them about Antique and YOM plates, they never heard of them.
Just got my ***le today. Not as hard as I thought. All you need is a bill of sale -the vin verification form signed by a sherriff and a affidavit by the owner defending the ***le from all claims. I got the forms from the dmv web site
Just got my no-***le 39 Merc (ex NY state) ***led with no problem. You will need the DMV forms for Bill of Sale and application for ***le, which has the VIN verification section. Had a cop at my front door to do the inspection half an hour after I called ;-) Thanks 345 DeSoto for the help!
This thread will definitely come in handy; seems like nearly every project I find is missing the ***le. Not that I need any more projects, but I can't help but look!
