From the factory, this stuff is THICK, like an inch thick in places. What do you use to replace it? Something needs to go back in there for support, but regular seem sealer aint gunna do it. Rich
I have no answer for but on mine that I am doing right now, I stopped taking it off and found some inside trunk side covers to hide it.
In my 51' there are strips that screw into the trunk floor [there was a ton of stuff over them, didn't even know they were there till I cleaned the stuff out], from the wheel tub back to under the tail light up against the quarter..Still need some filler but not much..
i have some panels that im trying to sale, i bought them but we went with a custom trunk. or you can make them from scratch?
Yeah Huh? must be different than 49 I guess that I could add metal filler strips, then use regular seam sealer. Never thought of that. What do your panels look like?
I haven't removed mine yet, but your right. Some kind of mystery goo they used as a seal. I keep staring at it and scratching my head. I'm thinking i'm going to use a product used to seal bolt in side gl*** on caravans. Called foam core. It's a cord of foam w****d in butyl. So it's stick for sealing and the foam inside keeps it from squeezing out. Get it from gl*** shops. Roofing tar in a chaulking tube might work to as it does get hard after time. Might be messy thou
I asked the same question over at shoeboxford.com and someone replied they replaced it with a foam strip dipped in bitumen rubber. I guess it's made for filling holes on roofing projects and can be gotten at lowes or home depot. The guy said it worked like a charm. I was thinking of going this route as well and finishing with roofing caulk but haven't gotten to it yet.
