Ok so here's my dilemma. I love the late 50's Watson inspired rides, and the early 60's bellflower inspired rides, but what would a '58 Caddy look like with scallops? I know the '58 Chevy's look awesome done up with a Watson paint scheme, however '58 Caddy's have more angles in the back and are less rounded. So I'm asking what you think, should I scallop the Cadillac, or should I just two-tone it with some striping? I want it to be crimson red pearl body, and white pearl roof. I tried to get some help in the photoshop thread, but there were no scallops presented. I haven't been able to find any examples? The handles, and emblems are getting shaved, but I haven't decided on the exhaust tips or stainless yet. Help a girl out here  I would hate to go to the effort of laying out scallops just to find out it doesn't work at all. I don't have any more recent shots of the build, so the glass is still missing on the passenger's side. If someone wants to photoshop a different '58 I wouldn't complain. Oh and stock hubcaps are the plan

IMHO.... DO NOT flame or scallop. A car with those big and beautiful lines deserves better than that. I'd rather see it remain the way it is than to schlock it all up. LOL

I agree. Scallops are to dress up an otherwise plain looking car.... That is NOT a plain looking car!

Touche, I wouldn't go overboard with the scallops, I should've said more mild scallops. Maybe stick to a simple two tone pearl, but I'm not convinced yet.

You could always go with thin subtle scallops like on Larry's '59 Caddy...

  11. No scallops. I would go with a nice candy color with a pearl top.

    It's a classy car.
Short of a doing a by-Gene Winfield fog color change. i'd go for an irridesent pearl that just accents the body in different lights.

From what I see, a small amount of just the right size, at the right place, would bring the car out, and bring it to life. Scallops look good on anything if done right. The body lines on that car, scallops would look better on the caddy than on the 58 chevy. The 58 Cadillac never did jump out and grab you. But with the right paint and scallops, and the right wheel and tire combination it would be a killer. Bottom line is, do you want to look like a old man with a brown hat, or a cool lowered time correct cruiser. You have got to be carefull with this car. No one thing is going to make this car. The right Combination is what's going to make or brake this one. Remember in 58 scallops were the thing. Buy it's your car do what you like, because you're the one that is going to drive it. Most of these boys can't see past black primer, which is cool on the right car, but not on a 58 caddy. Take your time, and do it your way. Good luck.

If done right, Nobody would mistake your car for sombody elses. In other words, if someone would see a pic of your car in ten years, it would be easy to identify it as being yours. It`s the little things that make cars stand out in a goodway. Scallops being one of them. DO IT!

Scallop it with a color that's slightly different from the main color. You want subtle on a car like that.

I like this a lot. We'll see what happens, but I think now I'm leaning towards a very mild scallop. Just highlight some areas.

Do it. But restraint will be KEY. And don't do such a big area like the copper and black one. Keep it simple.

Anyway, Caddy's should never be flat black!

Mild if any, scallops are mainly just on cars that don"t have anything going for them and that Caddy isn"t in that catagory.

Have a look at Phatcaddy's here on the HAMB

  29. It's just paint, do what you want and if you don't like it re-do it! But, I'd "Scallop" it...

I'm certainly not going flat black. I am definitely stuck on my colors, crimson red pearl, and white pearl. I could see a mild scallop on the front, maybe a little less dramatic than on the '57. Maybe smaller individual scallops, just to hightlight the curves, and maybe a big one to highlight the trunk. I love Phatcaddy's '57 on here, I won't be chopping, but I do want a mild custom.
