Found out this morning that my friend Monk p***ed away last evening here in Fredericksburg. Founder of Eastern Drag News/Drag Times,SS&DI Magazine,Stock Car Racing Magazine,co-owner of the old York US-30 Dragstrip and owner of the old 1320 Club back in my hometown of Alexandria. Monk along with the late Ed(Big Ed) Sloper was also a founding member of the Accellerators Car Club in Alexandria. Monk died after a valiant battle with cancer. God bless you Monk and thank's for all you did. RH
Damn, sorry to hear that.Was/is a big fan of Eastern Drag News/SS&DI.Posted a bunch of EDN's in a thread here. RIP,Monk. Thanks for the good memories.
Sorry to hear that. I had first met Monk at the old Drag Times offices in Arlington. I had forgotten all about the 1320 Club...lol RIP Monk.
Monk brought dancers to the suburbs with the original 1320 club down on route 1 in L.A.(lower Alexandria)and saved me and a heck of a lot of other guys a ton of gas we were burning running up to the DC clubs on 14st. to see "quality entertainment"! Go-Go Dancers, live bands, booze and dancing in a nice safe place in a good part of town....Monk was a real mover & shaker and was into the car scene with his pretty Chev street rod right up until things turned south early last year. He'll be missed.
Born and raised in Alexandria. To young to remember the 60s or 70s but know all about the 1320. Another hot rod legend lost RIP.
Sorry to hear that ! I met Monk back in the sixties, He was a real Go getter and a real Car Guy...Rest in Peace !
Monk was quite a character and an icon in eastern seaboard drag racing. Sorry to learn of his p***ing----- I will always be grateful of his contributions to the sport and for his friendship.
