because when I posted up I was starting the project people said they wanted to see some progress pics
it is an original 1962 vw color - Bahama Blue - it is actually a little greener than the pic shows... more like a sea foam green the white is just strait white with some yellow and black to give it a dirty look
LOVE IT! My husband bought me a 64 bug, that we've redone and painted....unfortunately, I'm having to sell it, and I'm pretty sure that it's sold now Oh well, there will be others, I'm sure
Nice Job... I love old bugs as well. Here is an interesting mix of traditional hotrodding and vw's.. Check it out: http://www.socalook.com/socalook.shtml
That color combo you've got is so soft. In a good way, it seems really soothing for some reason. I like it. I used to absolutely despise bugs for some reason. Now I've seen too many cool customs not to like em. I wouldn't mind pickin one up for a good price. Your project looks good so far, look forward to seeing the end result.
it's funny how folks here are totally hot or cold on vws. i cut my teeth on them and i still love 'em. i've owned more vintage vws than anything. kinda looking for one now. you got lucky getting that car. the wife has a new beetle and wants to trade it for a new beetle vert. went and looked at them on sunday. awesome cars but the 26-30 grand sticker prices hurt. i could build several vintage vws for that amount and thats actually what i'm trying to talk her into. bahama blue is a beautiful color. theres a 60 here that did the reverse of what you did and painted the area between the fenders bahama blue and the body pearl white with a matched bahama blue sliding rag. dresses with every accessory you could think of from the 60s and sitting at a right height. i've seen him out 3 or 4 times and i just stand there and admire it for a while each time. damn now i really want another one...ken....
Great to see the progress, and great choice of paint colors/scheme. I'm here to request even more pics when you have more progress.
Man, I hope you can talk her into the vintage one. I'm still on the fence about the new ones. there's just so many ways you can customize an oldie that you couldn't come close to doing to a new one. Good luck man.
I agree I don't recommend buying a new one.... I should know I work in the service department of a VW dealer
my old roomie in phoenix has some sweet 8 spoke empi's on his ghia with good low profile tires.the car got totaled a few months ago,i can find out if he took them off if you are interested.i believe they were grey with a polished outer rim.kind of like torque thrusts usualky are.send me a pm
Ha me too! well, as a driver anyhow... loving the car - what wheels are you thinking of? what motor is going to be in it? you NEED to spank musclecar/jap motors with it, they get really pissed off! was going to do a 1600cc single port but I think I am going to step up to a 1914cc and am going to run stock two tone steelies with chrome caps Thanks Craig
Damn, looks real good...now for a 2276, TO-4, Engle FK-87, 044's, Berg-5, I'm sure you know the drill... 250 streetable horsepower in a 1,700 pound car... do the math... ;=) BTW, 8 spokes won't fit a '62, VW went 4-lug in '68...
I already tried to get him to go all full cal-look with the 2300 cc. ha ha. JD that looks really good , I wish my 54 was painted that quick!
thats the funny thing she knows the new ones known problems. in the year she's had it. has done alt, head gasket, power window fix, cat converter, bla bla, bla i forget what else. everything but the head gasket got fixed under warranty. she's on 72000 now and we know of the replace the timing bel****er pump fiasco between 80-100k. another 500 bucks. it'll probably get traded in in the nest 10-15k for a vert. it's her car payment not mine, but i do have to say while it's not a vintage bug it is fun to drive. if you want a good laugh i brought home a 27" tv still packed in the box in the back of her bug a coupla months ago. the guys at sears looked at me like i had lost my mind.hahaha. oh yeah did i mention i have a set of BRMs sitting in storage for a future vw project and 2 good sprint stars...ken....
