Just wanted to ask guys to post pics of where they put the switches for the air ride on their car. So if you have em post em. I am working on my setup and don't want the typical switch box in the car. Thanks in advance guys!
totally OT ride, but I had them in the dash of my truck... 5 switches, one for each corner and one for the EDC... Right to the right of the steering wheel.
I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I've got that damn acrylic switch box and I hate it. I'm thinking about building a center console for my Galaxie and doing some sort of hidden mount. I like having switches, but hate having visible SWITCHES...if that makes sense.
i will post pictures when i get home.box mounts under seat with wire to controller about 6 ft long able to be out and then put back without seeing. got it on ebay 60.00
Never been a fan of those video game controllers myself. Not trying to be all "traditional", it just looks cheesy to me. Have you thought about hiding them in your glove box? I've seen some hidden inside a glove box along with the radio, and it makes for a really clean install. Unless you plan on playing with em on the road, there's really no reason for them to be within reach.
I strongly disagree with "unless you plan on playing with em on the road, there's really no reason for them to be within reach" Mine are mounted in my dash, next to my door within easy reach of my hand at all times. I can't tell you how many times I've had to raise the car up while driving because of some unseen object or pothole. You also need to be ready for a failure of a a bag. (rare, but it does happen.) If you lose a bag at speed, it may help to adjust the pressure in the other bags and avoid more problems. I'll see if I can get a pic of my switches for ya. (I will agree with you on the subject of the boxes, video game controllers, etc. Just doesn't look clean to me, and too much like a "hopper" car. )
There is a post on here somewhere showing how one guy used the push ****ons from his factory radio as the switches.
It's not traditional, but look through the junkyard for a small, overhead console. Find one with two map lights, and a fold-down door for sungl***es, mount the switches inside. It serves two purposes, stays out of the way, and dosen't stick out like a sore thumb. Paint & strip to taste.
because this is a traditional site, I suggest you put those air ride switches in the same place all the guys in the 50s and early 60s put them.....if you need to ask 'where is that' - I can't help you dj
When I bagged my '50 Ford, I put the switches on a plate under the dash. They were out of view, you just reached under and flicked the one you wanted.
The truck is o/t 67 chevy pick-up my son and I built. We built the center console and got rid of the acrylic box by mounting switches in the console. Pressure gauges mounted above stereo. Red
They are paddle switches. Air Lift, firestone, and ride tech all sell them. Just check with one of their dealers.
Mine are in the ashtray on my 59 Chevy, since I don't smoke it seems to work fine. I kept the cigarette lighter too so I can plug in my cell phone.
i used the switches from my ugly acrilic box and put them in a guitar petal. the 4 on bottom are corners and the two outer knobs are front and back
An older set-up, but in my '49 I mounted the panel under the dash inside the flip-down tissue dispenser.
I am going to come up with somthing to mount them in that looks cool, but can be stuffed under the seat when not in use. I will put my guages in the glove box. I really appreciate the pics guys!
Here's my switch box I made it's small and you can throw it under the seat if you don't want anyone to see it.
X2. I've only got a few hundred miles on mine so far, and being able to make fast adjustments and monitor or adjust the pressures at a glance far exceeds the need to hide them. One day I plan to have a cover that flips up when I drive and down to hide the gizmo when parked. You could do the same on an under dash panel, have it flip back and up to hide it when the trad police guys are peeking inside. Gary
