Got a 1957 Ford Meteor (Canadian Ford) with a 223 six. Getting ready for paint on the motor rebuild and wondering if any of you out there know what the original engine paint color/colors where. Have scoured the net and searched the forums, with no hard evidence yet. Thanks!!!!

They were Ford Red. They sell the engine enamal rattle can at Autozone. There are two shades and it is the lighter of the two.

The Ford Red is correct with a Black Valve cover. The same for most Y-blocks. The correct red is on the bright red to orange side, not the darker color.

If you want to use a catylized paint sprayed out of a gun for a really nice finish, you can use early sixties Ford truck "Rangoon Red" Most paint stores can still mix it if they do a search. The rangoon Red is actually a little cleaner than the original engine color and really look vibrant and fresh on a y block or six.
