Anyone know how far apart spring hangers like these should be mounted when using a model A spring and crossmember mounted behind the diff?
Doesn't it depend on the weight of the car? Interested in the answers to this myself as I will be putting the rear end under my '27 shortly as well, which uses an A frame and spring.
I'm lookin' at the Pete and Jake install sheet, and it say's: 29-31R-C: 46"-46 1/2" (Like grits coupe) 29-31R: 48"-48 1/2" (Like jackandeuces roadster)
Keep in mind the diference of the ride height between the two you are comparing, the Deuce in the avitar of Jackandeuce sits lower than my coupe, mine is more of a highboy, meaning higher in the rear.
My Deuce Hiboy has a 40 front spring, in the rear, with an original 32 rear cross member... When I use a model A spring with a model A crossmember I set the perches at 48 1/2 inches , which should make the spring eyes about 46- 46 1/2 inches loaded ,.I just measured a Model A rear perch setting , it measures, just under, 49 inches center to center of perches.. If spring perches are too close the spring will not be able to work properly...The picture, Thanks to Jeffery James , looks much lower then it really is..
Hey thanks for chiming in, I was wondering what spring set up you where using, it does make a difference. I guess the 40 spring is a little wider eye to eye, my spring eyes are about 44" apart under load. ps. nice car there bub.
Model T , A and 40 rear springs use the same distance, 48 1/2 inch... 40 front spring is much closer, in the 42 inch range but would need to measure to be certain ...
I see now, I'm using the A front spring and @ 33" inches at the eyes under load, dude, wanna trade your roadster for?????????? never mind.
