I have started the section, 3". considering a chop as well? My thoughts at the moment are to preserve the origional gl***. I was thinking to cut the rear gl*** and metal out(down to the bonded seam in the deck around the trunk where the weatherstrip goes). Move it back about three inches?, and pancake the roof to get a couple inches. Then I can lean the windshield down a bit at the A-pillar with a pie cut...The thing I am concerned with, is I will have to channel the rear corner of the factory windshield up to an inch to avoid cutting. Anyone ever done or heard of this? Will it work? Or should I just cut new galss? Cutting the gl*** isn't the problem....used to do it for a living. Trying to save a buck and just do it, but don't wanna waste my time either? Thanks, Mark
The stock height of the convertible and hardtop windshields is lower than the sedan windshield you have now. If I wanted to chop a '56 Plymouth, I'd chop the windshield to the height of a hardtop windshield and lean the rear window inward like you described earlier. That way none of the wraparound gl*** ever has to be cut. It'll be a mild chop (I think the difference is around 2 inches) but with a sectioning you don't want to take out too much anyway. Also, after all that work, I think I'd want to find some 2 door sedan doors to go on the car, and move the door pillar back accordingly. I'm not fond of the 4 door post proportions. Doors from a 55-56 Plymouth or Dodge will work.
thanks, I did not know about the differances in the gl*** sizes. I had considered the 2door conversion, but with the children...I dont wanna get out evertime I drop them at school. lol I may do it to get the lines I want if need be, just move b-post and section the back doors &graft the front. Thanks, Mark
