I was at a local junk dealers place yesterday and ran across this huge steel box.It has a manual hand pump on it.When i ask the ole fella what it was he indicated that back in the day it you would have the oil company deliver your oil in bulk. The pump on it was design so when you made one complete revolution it would pump out a measured full quart of oil.The last thing i want to do is cut up something that is truly vintage and not just laying around everyday. Thanks for any help
.....cut it........its 40's or 50's stuff......lot of then around...they sell for about $100 a swat shows all painted up
I wished I could find one for $100.00. All of the ones I find around here are in the $400.00 + range.
I have one just about like that out in one of my sheds BBob. It's in about the same shape too. One of those things that was too interesting to throw away but I have no place to actually put it.
"lubester" look it up, cut it to s****, stupid, cut it up to make a automobilia display cabinet, cool. It's your money/metal.
I had one in my shop in the 80s. You have to do an *** load of oil changes to want one. I just left it in the shop when I left. Mine did have an air powered pump but that was just an accessory for the tank.
......In Wisconsin,,,we have the Jefferson Swap meet in spring and fall(4500 vendors) seen them go from $50 to $125 ...I almost bought one, they just take up to much room in the garage....I'am sure with the price of iron up....alot of them will be cut up.....
The fact that it's a well made (and presumably leak free) tank makes it a shame to s****. What would you do with steel after you cut it up? Seems like it would be of interest to petrobila collectors. Is there no evidence of an oil company logo.
I can get a free one but havent gone to pick it up. I drove by it today still in the same place for 3 years now.
That's a small one. They would not deliver bulk oil to my shop unless I needed 150 gallons. if that is all you need buy a 55 gal drum of oil.
Pardon my ignorance, but why do you want to get something from somebody else if you just want to cut it up?
The reason I want one is it will make it easier to store old oil. Then I could pump it out to haul to the recycle station. Plus I think that they are cool old gas station tools.
Do yourself a favor and do a Google Image search for lubester. http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&...=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1920&bih=905 Then decide if it would be cool restored or used as is. Don't s**** it. Someone would love to have it to restore.
whatever you do.......DO NOT... use a torch to cut up any tank.........last guy i knew tried that.......i`d ask him to tell you about what happens but.......he aint landed yet
I realize that, but I was asking the OP since he seems to want to cut it up, but doesn't even have it yet. Seems odd, just curious.
