who has the best floor pans and body repair panels for 39 to 40 ford coupes any of yous guys sued different ones and see any differences?
I made my own floor panels put used some pre-made stuff as follows: Firewall--Direct Sheetmetal (same as Bitchin' only cheaper, fit good) Outer Rockers--MACS Lower Quarter patches--MACS, needed lots of tweaking to fit Rear fender front lower--EMS, have not installed it yet. .looks good though. Hope this helps.
cant comment on that exact year, but the outer rockers i got that were in the trunk of the car when i got it came from Macs, and the initial fit was great. wont need to much bending and persuasion when i get ready to sew em on the car. if i aint mistaken tho, arent 90% of all replacement panels for Fords made by the same outfit someplace in Ohio? Surplus supply i think?
Not your model, but I used EMS rocker panels on my '34 Ford, they were perfectly countoured, I recommend them highly.
THANKS I really appreciate the info an remember "ifn it aint broke Ill fixer til she is, and ifn she works Ill find out whos been screwing with it "
I have a set of EMS and Bob Drake patch panels for a forty ford ,,,and the are as different as night and day,,,,,if you don't have any problems with the door post I guess the EMS panels would work,,,,,,but ya still got a lot of work to do,,,, The Drake panels are almost direct replacement panels,,,much better mad and the already have the correct curves to fit where they should,,,look at the photos,, The only draw back to the drake panels is the are kinda pricy,,,,$175.00 a pair,,,,,,,,,I don't remember what the EMS panels were,,,, HRP
Check Paul Bradley for the floor pans. They're repros of the originals with all cool looking beading. For QTR Panel patches, I got them from Dennis Carpenter, but they're flat and needed to be bent to match the curve of the body. Didn't like it so got one for the other side from McPhearson Restorations, which had the proper countor. Both ended before the door jamb area, but McPhearson also sold door jamb patch panels which we used. Now, the new Bob Drake patch panels have the right curve and the door jamb portion is part of the stamping, so I'll use them next time. Drake also makes a cowl panel patch which is the whole triangular area from the cowl stainless to the running board.
One other thing.... If you use the repro tool tray behind the rear valance, measure everything about 10 times and mock up how the trunk lid fits before welding. We put one in my Coupe and lined everything up the way the old one had been in. After that, we put in the rear valance using the tool tray as the reference point and welded everything up. After that, the car sat about 5 years until I finally gathered enough nerve to pay someone for the final bodywork and paint. When they fitted the deck lid, the rear valance was 1 1/4 inches too low, making too much of a gap between the deck lid and valance. They had to cut the bottom trunk opening area of the valance, move it up 1 1/4 inches and make a patch for the resulting 1 1/4 inch gap. The body shop said they had a problem with the tool tray not fitting right on another '40 also. His theory was that the repro tool tray may have fit right in the car that was used as the test mule, but there were variances in cars coming from different factories so they don't fit exactly the same in all '40s. Hate to admit to my own stupidity here, but if it keeps someone else from making the same mistake, it's worth it.
