You'll have trouble figuring out a way to install a kill switch for the starter :)

Sadly, the only thing an alarm is good for is warning you that your bike will be gone before you get to it. A popular and easy way to steal bikes around here is to gather four friends. One to drive the delivery truck, three to help you load the bike in it with 2X4's or baseball bats trough the wheels.

I've heard stories about people seeing this happen right in front of their home or in parking lots with cameras. The guys will be gone before you get to them. There is nothing you can do about it.

Just use a large chain or bicycle U shaped lock and hope for the best.

  5. I've seen hey have those alarm systems that page your key fob like an pager,
I'd get one of those, and I shot ..opps!, shoot the person thats stealing my bike with my 44 Magnum!

you may not be able to scare them, but you CAN slow them down. Use the Ulock. Use a chain also. Use an alarm. Get a cover for the bike, too - many covers have places where you can lock the cover to the bike. Lock the cover.

Defeating all of these locks will take enough time (with an alarm blaring) that theives may pass it up.

But if they REALLY want it, they'll get it.

    Can you bring it inside?

Go to home depot or walmart and look for the battery powerd window magnet alarms. Seems like you could mount it in some way that if it's moved the two parts get seperated and the alarm goes off. Hell, you could almost lay both parts together on the seat and then put the cover on, if someone even tries to move it it'd go off, and with the locked cover on, it'd take forever to figure out wher it is. Those alarms are like $10 or so, too.

My bike is safely parked in the living room right now. They'll have to get through 4 dogs and assault weapons if they want it...

Best theft deturant(?) I've ever seen and used. Mount an EMPTY holster on the bike. What would you think??? ;) This works!!! AL

  15. If it lives at home, may well be worth investing in a ground anchor, I had one back home in England when I had my Ducati Monster, worked well, also had a f*ckin big chain & a disclock like this
[IMG]....but as mentioned above, if the little bastards want it, they will have it away.
Back home the popular method is backing a matress lined van up to the bike & a couple or 3 guys manhandle it into the back, the matresses cushion the bike from damage as they literally throw the bike in, and also, if it is alarmed, it drown's the sound out a little too.

    Good luck.

Another thing to do is buy a cheap engraver from a hardware store (about $9) and engrave something on it in many hidden places. Don't use your social sec #. A phone # is good only if you plan to keep the same #. Put it a few places that would be hard to find so the theives won't grind them off, and take lots of pictures. I agree on the ground anchor. I had a freind that built a small cage from expanded metal and 1" square tube just bigger than his bike in his garage and bolted it to the floor Kinda looked like a police evidence locker. He had his alarm company put a sensore on the door to it when they did the garage, and he kept a tarp on it. He was a bit anal about it being stolen (it was one of those generic iron horse choppers), but he skrimped and saved for a couple years to buy that bike, he wasn't going to let it go easy.

jesus- i think that i'll just chain the hell out of it and put a toggle switch in so that it can't be hotwired too easily. what about one of those alarms that goes off when the bike tips?
and what do i do when i'm out on the town... that is the riskiest time of all for theft, i think.

these are good ideas. To get back to original question, My friend used to used jogger alarms back in the old days. I guess they have a string on them that joggers can pull in an emergency. He would attach the siren to the frame and the string to a post of something. even the forks. They are supposed to be REALLY FUCKING LOUD! here's one I found on google
