...Hi, Love what you have done. I am having some problems with my H&C Magneto and the fitting of pulleys and the fan I wondered if you could post up some photos of what you did and did you use 59a waterpumps and pulleys and did you get clearance when you modified the fan carrier. I am running a timing plate which moves the magneto a futher 1/2" out from the timing cover and in turn means the crank shaft pulley has more clearance problems. If you have the pics possibly pm them to me and any suggestions for the alignment problems before I go completely insane....cheers Frank ps see my thread under http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=544393
**** hot car bob, i've always been a fan of your coupe but this has topped it. has to be one of the most period correct rods ever built in england.
Frank, the motor is using truck double pulley pumps and crank pulley , I had to remove the outer sheave off the crank pully (the H&C mag has a recess at the back to take the pulley ) I remember cutting the 37 fan down to fit in the space between the top of the mag and the underside of the header and also t******* the back off the fan carrier and using a press to push the shaft that the fan runs on through the bracket to the position that i needed it at and then added some gussets onto the mount to raise and strengthen it up a bit
Thanks for the support guys. I have had to replace the motor with a 59A at the moment while I rebuild the 21 stud other than that she runs like a dream, got quite a few miles in it now, ha ha ha a lot of them in the rain!!!. These pics are part of a set that were done for our main mag over here in the UK and are a hell of a lot better than those on my mobile phone (Thanks Pete ) hope you like them.
Looks perfect! What shocks are you using up front? I have the exact same mounts in the same locations and am having problems coming up with the right length.
...thanks Bob, I have done a bit of work on the engine and have come up with this, I have used 2 59a pulleys and fitted them to the truck pumps these I have pressed back far enough to align with the alloy crankshaft pulley that I have machined to clear the magneto. Looks like it will all work and I get to use the wide belt. Now all I need to do is get the fan to work. While doing this I decided to polish the magneto and the intake manifold and a days work has worked wonders. ...cheers Frank<!-- / message --><!-- attachments --> <FIELDSET cl***=fieldset><LEGEND>Attached Thumbnails</LEGEND> </FIELDSET>
Hey Frank, the motor looks really really well great job and should run as good as it looks with having the lead plate to adjust.I never ran the lead plate with mine although it was a real pig to set up and get running. Once I worked out how to set it up by finding TDC lineing the splines on the adaptor and the rotor arm up at No1 she fired right up and ran really strong and had no probs with it at all. Bob
Hey Chris, Ahem, they are just long covered (co*gh, P&J's) nothing special.they are just right on the limit of showing the inner "rod" if you like but the car rides great and has no untoward characteristics I welded bungs/shock studs to the axle and cut down some F1 shock mounts, took a couple of leaves out of the stock 33/34 front spring with a reversed eye main leaf, pretty standard stuff, Bob
