Anyone recognize this 34 Ford coupe? The photos were taken during a parade in Victoria, B.C. about 1960. The coupe appears to be chopped and channeled and ran a flathead. Any old northwest rodders out there recognize this coupe?
Maybe no BC Hambers old enough to remember this 34 coupe, built as a drag car. Belonged to the Quarter Milers club here in Victoria. Posting again to see if any memories are jogged.
I have no clue since im about 40 years too late, but living 30 min. away from vic this tickles my interest!
Sure looks like Cal Morrows car, but it had an olds in it well before 1960. Other than the flathead thing and the color, it looks like a clone of his car. I cant see the engine in these photos, so???
I think they both look good. I ***ume the pics were taken at the Victoria Day Parade in May. Sorry, I have no info on the coupe. It would be cool to find more info. I ***ume the dragstrip in Cobble hill was not operating then with the sign on coupe. Anyone know when the Cobble Hill dragstrip started and any history about it.
Cal Morrow's car later became known as the Orange Crate in Victoria, B.C. Here is a photo of that rod in a car show, likely in the 60's. I don't think the drag car in the original post photo is the Orange Crate because the chop is different. The mystery continues...
The parade photo doesnt have the windshield frame or windshield in, which could throw you off. Also, Cals car didnt always have the rear fenders or nose. Are you sure the date on this photo is 1960, not earlier? Other than the color, this looks just like Cals car when it was in R&C in '55.
Ok, heres what I automatically think of when you say "Cal Morrow" coupe, And heres a photo that rbantique posted on the HAMB a while ago. When I saw the BCCCA plaque, I immediately asked if he had more photos. The Cal Morrow coupe did not click in when I saw this. And heres what he posted. Just my opinion, but I think the parade photo dates from 1954, and it is the Cal Morrow coupe before it was finished. Note the exposed, polished br*** rad top in particular.
falcongeorge, the parade is not in 1954, the Quarter Milers car club was not formed until 1956 ( as per the Quarter Milers web site ) also I don't think the Cal Morrow coupe came over to the island until 1956. When you zoom in tight on the parade coupe, you can see it is a flathead ( two hoses to top of rad, and finned heads ) Also the shape of the rad is different from Cal's. I believe this is a different chopped '34, and we would like to know if anyone remembers one, besides Cal's.
