Sometimes my parents ask me "What is this car?" and I can usually figure it out right away or at least fairly quickly, but this one has me stumped. Its from The Revised Mcalls Book of Modern Houses, printed in '51 and '59, I am pretty sure that I have seen it before, I just have no idea what it is and its bugging me. Does anyone here know what it is?
I would go with muntz or muntz prototype. Chrysler had some concept cars with pretty similar lines in the 40's, like the Thunderbolt.
I am certain that it is not a production American or European car of any kind. The car it most resembles is a '48-'50 Packard convertible, but there are several details that differ. Either the car was customized, or the photo was retouched to disguise the make. It's also conceivable that it's a (customized or retouched) '49-'50 Lincoln, but I couldn't find a suitable picture for comparison. Here's the Packard:
My first thought was a Muntz also, but Ed knows Muntz so that nixes that idea. Maybe its an Edsel Alley Ostrich. Smooth looking old beasty no matter what it is.
47-48 Issota Frachini?? with a few extras? It appears to me to be a mid-size (sorta) not a full size american car. Is the windshield one piece or two?
My guess is Porsche 55 100 percent sure ,Even had the stainless around body and lad back windsheild James Dean owned one
