Factory GM Tri-power

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ottoparts, Jan 17, 2011.

  1. First and foremost, I am not a Chevy guy.
I have in my collection of misc parts what I believe to be a factory GM tri-power set up. The carbs are Holly's and from what I understand are not factory. But the manifold has "GM" on it and "3937797" under the GM. I believe this came off of a 396 (not positive).
I was wondering if you Chevy guys can tell me what its worth. I need a few things for my projects and its time to let this go.
Its by no means perfect. As you can see from the pictures the engine it came off of had gotten water in it.

That is a late 1968 -1969 435 hp 427 tri power intake .. Those carbs could be factory , just need the numbers . Probably worth its weight in gold.

Looks like big block Chevy to me, came out on the vettes in 66 or 67, 427/435 HP

Those are the stock carbs it came with though, its only worth what someone is willing to pay, I looked on ebay and they are between 2 and 4 grand, but those are in pristine condition, thats just "asking" price, who knows what they will actually go for.

    Still worth some bucks though

I believe the only Chev Big Block that had tri-power was the 427 'Vette. Give that puppy a light dusting & throw it on ebay. Don't forget to post the #s. I think you'll be pleased with the results. Good Luck.

Thats an awesome set up. I dont know if I could convice myself to sell it though. I would beleive its atleast worth 1500 just because its complete.

Looks like you have yourself some carbs off a 67,68,or 69 427 Corvette (could either be 400hp or 435hp). The outer two are 67,68,69 and the center carb is 68 & 69 by running the numbers.

That's correct, unless you count the 348 tri-power setups used from 58-61.

Neighbor at the Charlotte fall swap meet had a set-up - if I remember, off a 396...not certain if it was "correct" but he claimed it to be. He was asking $2500...wouldn't take a penny less. He pulled out VERY early without selling, and several people came back to try to buy it.

    Awesome setup...good luck

I agree start at 3k........ 60s bb Vette stuff still brings top dollar. I sold a 435h.p/427 distributor with correct red collar about a year and a half ago for around $850 and that may have been too cheap.

Dont happen to have the air cleaner to go with it do you ,that would make it worth more

It's a square port intake which came on the 435 horse 427 in '67-'69 Vettes.. Chevy never installed one of these on a 396, but I'm sure some car dealers did the install on other big block powered cars... Like the early Camaros with the 396/375 motor..

Square port manifold is 435 setup. 400 setup was oval port. You are missing vacuum parts on the front and rear carbs as well as fuel lines. I think the linkage has been modified also to full mechanical instead of vacuum secondary actuation. Still worth some bucks to the right guy looking for that setup. As is I would guess between 650 and 900, but that is just a guess.

    I own a 348 Tri-Power. I've just always thought of 348s & 409s as their own family.

You have a '68-69 427/435hp intake / carb setup. The 1967 setup has a high rise manifold and is harder to come by being a one year only deal. Your setup is missing the vacuum dash pots on the secondary carbs, the proper fuel lines and linkage. All hard to get parts (read expensive).
Like someone posted they can be expensive but only when they are complete and functional which yours is not. With the linkage and fuel line parts that are missing, no aircleaner and the carbs needing a complete rebuild some of the prices posted here are dreamer only deals. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try top get as much as possible and let the new owner be pissed when he finds out it will take north of $1000 to put it back in a functional state and that's with the owner doing the labor. If someone were to farm out the restoration count on $2000 if the carbs aren't screwed up beyond repair.
