Finally at age 60 I was able to experience what my dad did when he was 19 by taking a flight in a B-17. He was fresh out of flight school, 19 years old and the pilot, picked up a new one at the factory. He and his crew flew it to England and took part in the bombing of Germany. Flew thier 25 missions and returned stateside. He wanted more so retrained in the new B-29 and was stationed on Guam for the remainder of the war bombing Japan.

Very cool dad! On my bucket list for me and my 12 year old boy, he is a nut for WWII history. Wonder where he gets that from;)? Have a great Labor Day All.

Good for your son, what a great dad you are! I had my first ride in one 2 years ago at this time for my birthday. I loved it! I would love to be a part of their volunteer flight crew someday.

Not a great dad, though we all try. Just a son that really deserved it and has helped me with my aircraft related items, and enjoyed WWII aircraft for years. A promise that needed to be kept!

What a special day for both of you, those are days you cherish as a parent, he will never forget it. Plus you showed him some great american history to boot.
Took my 16yr old to see Social D , yes me at 50 too, a memory forever.

Verrry Cool. I really miss the Warbird show that they used to do at Chandler Field here in Fresno. Before I found hotrods and model cars, it was all WWI&II fighter plane books and models. Wore the stick off my M'soft Combat Flight Simulator2 & Pacific Theater.

*****'n. It is almost indescribable how bold and brave you had to have been to saddle up in one of those up in combat. Amazing machines flown by amazing men. I'm certain your son will cherish the opportunity.

Yep, the boy just about lost his gl***es while sticking it out the upper, if you look at the pic you can see another friend holding his hat to save it. I have been involved with many airshows and fly-ins over the years, if you ever get the chance, take it!!!! You won't be dissappionted

real plains flow by real men! had a B-17 fly over the house one day I was like a kid in the front yard.

  17. Great experience I'm sure,,,,REAL PLANES have propellers.

  18. Lucky pup! Nothing like riding in a warbird. I've been in a P-40, B-25, Stearman, T-6 and Beech 18 but a ride in a 17 would be awesome. Good for him!!

  19. My Dream ride !!! AWESOME !!

I can just hear the scream of animated voices over the R/T....

"BANDITS....9 o' clock high" and the high pitched shriek of supercharged FW190's and ME 109's diving in and rolling away their guns blazing, and the shattering sounds of Browning .50 cals blasting away and FEEL the fear.....

    R E S P E C T for the ol' fly fly boys....

What field does she fly out of or does she travel the States like "Aluminium Overcast" ?

Real cool! I love WW2 aircraft. My Uncle flew as a B-24J Liberator flight engineer with the 8th Air Force 392nd Bomb Group, Wendling England fall1944/spring-VE-DAY 1945. I can't wait for WW2 weekend at Reading, PA what a blast! This year two B-17s and B-29-FIFI plus all kinds of US/BRITISH fighters. Last year they even flew down a RCAF Lancaster. I met Bud Anderson ( P-51 OLD CROW ), THAT MAN IS A REAL HERO!
