I painted some MC parts for a guy in SC , when they got there the r fender was damaged. It took FedEx six weeks to get an adjuster out to my shop. When they finally did show up , they had a book about 3" thick showing you how to pack your parts . Since I did'nt meet their specs they denighed the claim . IMO fedex insurance is a scam , and I've never used them since. Good luck .

wow, you mean fedex is worse than the post office! i had a claim thru ups and it was no problem. never had a problem with fedex damaging anything and use them a lot. i know the post office is pretty bad here for claims. no offence to any postal workers out there!

Are we talking Fed Ex Ground or AIR shipped. The ground service with FED Ex is a joke . I do alot of shipping and receiving, and I can't believe anything they touch gets to someone not damaged. I have seen truck stop and open the door to the back and have seen my stuff with heaps of box on top of my items marked fragile. They just broke two O.G. Nomad door gl***es that were shipped to me. DO NOT BEND ! arrows pointing up. box bent, pulled of the truck laying flat. Denied my claim, parcel packed poorly. out $125.00.. Don't get me started with lost parcel... ARGH. I don't ship FED EX ground at all.. UPS

That's exactly what I told John...They would've had to throw the thing against a cement wall or somethin'!...maybe ran over it with the hi-lo.

Shipping handlers... Took me three times to get a new hot water heater that wasn't bashed in the side.

    Good luck guys.

Hate to tell you, but you are prolly screwed. I send off an $800 alternator. UPS f-ed it all to hell. no dice, wouldn't cover it.

BTW the adjuster also told me that your package is handled using conveyor belts and could posibly drop up to 10 feet at any time, and that they can stack up to 300 lbs. on top of your package. I think by shipping one or two day air you might have better luck.

The box and packing looks sketchy...imo. The better you pack it the better you look if damage does occur.

If you get lucky they will pay an under $100 claim. I am in the shipping business. I own a shipping store.
I would say your carb was not properly packaged. You need a min. of 2 inches on all sides of the item you are shipping. Eg a 10x6x5 item need a 14 x10x9 inch box min.
Bubble wrap the item and add peanut(loose fill) to the emply space. Newspaper compresses in shipment causing your item to move around in the box. I have filed numerous claims with all carriers and have yet to have one denied because of poor packaging. You don't have to go to a shipping store to get good packaging.
Newspapers and rags just don't make it.
I know this is harsh but I am trying to help everyone in the future get the parts to the buyer undamaged. As a note I have refused to ship customer packed items because I know they will be damaged in transit. My last Fedex claim took 8 weeks to settle and it was their fault delivering to the wrong address.

shipped a vintage chevrolet dealership sign to a fella in northern illinois , UPS and fully insured. used two entire rolls of bubble wrap on it , put it in a reinforced cardboard box that i get concrete supplies in , stuffed that so full of newspaper it would not budge. Guy gets the sign , box is smashed in the middle and the sign is busted all to hell. UPS tells me that newspaper is not covered packing material. I am out the 200 bucks and the sign now. No good mother @*#^%$#
