I am in the exact same boat with my coupe as well. I am thinking about using some 1/2 wide steel stock and and cut & shape it to form around the bottom edge. I don't think there's really an easy way to do this. It would be nice if someone like Brookville would just produce one of these things as I think there's enough guys out there that need em.
I was going to look into 1" half-round bar. Like they use in hand railings. Would need to heat it to go around the corners though. I thought it would be best to make it in three pieces. The center piece below the rear window would be pretty well flat, and form the two side pieces with the heat to wrap around. I am hoping this will work. My local model A guru says they are next to impossible to find. Got the bare body and t-lid back from Media-blasters yesterday, needs the usual patches along the bottom.
You can buy a replacement at Sacramento Vintage Ford - it's $195 01158-22 BELT RAIL MOULDING 1IN WIDE COUPE 1928-
Don't get your hopes up with that belt rail moulding. It has been discontinued and they don't have anyone else to manufacturer them.
Yeah, i checked on the wraparound piece and it is discontinued. I hope to get back to this body after Christmas, right now i am busy on the 39 coupe. I have a very bad back and it's realy slowing down the production.
The picture the37kid posted with the leather back top still in place is AWSOME , if I had one I'd think long and hard about changing that part (other than mabe a chop ,have to think about that too) how many leather backs vs reg. coupe top cars do you see ? why not be different ? Just sayin , anyway good luck .
