Never got too deep into he**** coachbilder knowledge, but saw one for sale that was interesting here. Really intact and looks solid. 56 Caddy... I have seen the version like this with the corner windows in pictures online, but don't know which builder it was made by. Someone told me the Caddys with this design were Memphian? (I thought they did only ambulances -what do I know). Anyway -any help? It has no engine/trans, but all the unique side trim and badging is there.
I am not an expert on Cadillacs or he****s but according to the Crestline book 80 Years of Cadillac LaSalle they shipped 2,025 commercial ch***is that year to five makers; Eureka, Superior, Meteor, Miller and Hess & Eisenhardt. Don't know yet which one this is but here is one the same http://www.flickr.com/photos/49324777@N00/1592283 You could try searching here - http://www.coachbuilt.com/index.htm - where there are some pictures of the makers' products. Or here - http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/prof_ndx.htm - which is where I found proof that the one you have here is a Meteor.
That is pretty sweet. I found a 1960 model rotting away in a front yard here in Austin...has the same wrap around corner windows.
THANKS! I don't know where all that info. is online, I would have been looking blindly without brand/keyword. I looked at this one given in the other post, scrolled way down through the different makers... http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/prof_ndx.htm - Here are pics...Yep, it is Meteor. They had the coolest "v" side trim. Apparently all Meteor conversions that year had corner windows. Amb.s and he****s, except one model. Isn't a Caddy front clip worth $1500. +-? The car is " not much" more than that, so...? Pics: AMBULANCE / AMBULANCE IN JUNKYARD / COMBINATION AMB./HE****.
Speaking of "V" side trim, they're not unlike the Canadian (Ford) Meteors of the day...which even had a prominent V-emblem in the grilles in '57... Coincidence? Nice find...used to love crawling through the boneyards on Hollywood Blvd. by the Speedway... Where'd they all go?
id buy the wheels, if you do pick it up, seems like thery're would only be a few things that would be sellable if you were to part it out, I would sell it as complete to someone in the midwest looking for a he****
