Getting ready to paint the Landlords car The trim that runs under the doors.....how do you take it off? Have removed the bolts under the rocker and it's still stuck like glue. Are the clips plastic or metal? Reusable after I remove the trim? I just don't want to screw up his stainless trim in the process. Thanks a bunch, Stevie G
I'm not the one to answer here (I've never painted), but I have a thought....The people who have the info needed to help you might be better able to answer if you told them a little about the make/model/year of the landlord's car. I'm sure that different cars have used different ways to hold the trim in place....
Uh.....yeah...that would help. My brain froze last night. It's a 64 Bonneville with the wide trim under/on the doors.
[On the 60's GM cars I've worked on, after you remove the screws you just do some gentle prying and prodding with a putty knife--what's holding it down is beads of greyish caulking or anti-rattle goo that fortunately is a fairly weak glue.
Hmmm...on rereading your Q, maybe my interpretation of "under" is in the wrong plane--I was talking about the trim with the Fisher logo atop the rocker panel within the door opening, but I guess now you mean external trim below the door opening.
You are correct Sir! It's the really wide (6") finned/ribbed trim. It's bolted at the bottom (Underneath, out of view).
Try removing the screws on the bottom(up underneath), then pull the rocker molding out where it'll clear the rocker, and slip it up. Should be some flat clips that the top lip of the molding slides over..Real clear, huh? Just a guess--GM used several different attaching methods. mid-tenn mike
That would be my guess. The Landlord tried and didn't have any luck but...he's worried about screwing it up. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks for the input.
